The Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees open up a four-game set at Yankee Stadium tonight in a battle of high-powered American League East offenses predicted to duke it out for the division crown all season long.
Toronto and New York both enter this game having won their respective opening series, but both starting rotations looked shaky at best. Does that mean fireworks tonight in the Bronx?

Blue Jays vs Yankees betting preview
Starting pitchers
Alek Manoah (2021: 9-2, 3.22 ERA): Manoah is coming off an impressive rookie season with the Blue Jays. The right-hander pitched to a 3.22 ERA and limited opponents to a .192 batting average over 20 starts. Can he carry that over into his first full season as a starter?
Jameson Taillon (2021: 8-6, 4.30 ERA): Taillon was solid if unspectacular in his first season wearing pinstripes pitching to a 4.30 ERA and 1.21 WHIP over 29 starts. But the right-hander will look to be more reliable in 2022 after averaging less than five innings a start last year.

Blue Jays vs Yankees picks and predictions
Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.
Moneyline analysis
We get a great early-season showdown between the two favorites to win the American League East when the Toronto Blue Jays visit the New York Yankees for a four-game set in the Bronx.
The Blue Jays opened the season by taking two of three games from the Texas Rangers. And while the offense did what was expected by putting up gaudy numbers, the starting rotation had its issues.
Blue Jays starters surrendered 17 earned runs while lasting a total of just 8.2 innings. Not great, Bob. Luckily the Jays lineup and bullpen picked up the slack. And they’re hoping to get a little more out of today’s starter — Alek Manoah.
The big right-hander is looking to build off an impressive rookie campaign, which included allowing just three runs on seven hits while striking out 11 in 11 2/3 innings of work over two starts against the Yankees last season.
Meanwhile, the Yankees squeaked out two close games against their most hated rivals, the Boston Red Sox, before losing 4-3 on Sunday night. And while Yankees starters have been better than Toronto's, their combined 6.97 ERA is not a good look. Additionally, none of them pitched more than four innings.
So, they’ll hope to get a few innings out of Jameson Taillon. Unfortunately, the Canadian righty averaged just 4.9 innings per start last season and he struggled against the Jays, posting a 6.23 ERA and a .786 OPS in three starts against Toronto.
These offenses are close to a wash and the Yankees' edge in the bullpen isn’t as large as in years past, but the Jays have the better starter going, young as he is. So, for that reason, we’re leaning towards the even money with the Jays.
Prediction: Blue Jays (+100 at DraftKings)
Over/Under analysis
You might think that a game featuring two great offenses and a total of 9.0 is an automatic Over bet. But just a warning: these teams have played to the Under eight times in their last 10 meetings in the Bronx. That said, I'd still lean Over here.
For starters, the Jays lineup appears to be living up to the hype as one of the most dangerous in baseball. They are never out of a game with this offense. They trailed the Rangers 7-0 on opening night and came back to win 10-8. They ended up scoring 20 runs in the three-game series.
While the Yankees might not have the same depth 1-9 as the Jays, they certainly still have plenty of pop, hitting five dingers with a .737 OPS in a tough series that featured some good pitching from the Red Sox.
Manoah is a tough competitor, but the Jays had to eat a lot of innings with their bullpen over the weekend. If Manoah gets in trouble, the Yankees could take advantage of the Jays' overworked relievers.
Prediction: Over 9.0 (-110 at DraftKings)
Best bet
We're going back to the Blue Jays offense for this one. As we mentioned, the Jays scored 20 runs on opening weekend and went over their team total twice in those games. In the lone game where they didn't exceed the set team total, they left 17 men on base. That won’t be a frequent occurrence for this team this season.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has picked up where he left off last season while Bo Bichette and George Springer are also off to decent starts. But there is just so much depth on this team, and they can hurt you one through nine. With Taillon's struggles against Toronto last season, getting plus money on the Jays’ team total is too good to pass up.
Pick: Blue Jays team total Over 4.5 (+105 DraftKings)
