My Marlins vs Dodgers best bet: Over 8.5 (-105 at Caesars)
The Miami Marlins have been an Over bettors’ dream lately, going 12-3 O/U across their last 15 games — including five straight Overs on the road.
They face off with the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are 4-1 O/U in their last five games overall and 8-1 O/U in their last nine meetings with Miami.
Dave Roberts sends Dustin May to the mound for Monday’s series opener. The 27-year-old has been fine but unspectacular, ranking between the 42nd and 55th percentiles in xERA, xBA, K-rate, and walk rate.
The 6-foot-6 hurler has altered his pitch mix in 2025, opting for more sweepers (39.9%) to pair with his patented sinker (33.4%).
Not all websites qualify the sweeper as an official offering, but the Marlins have hit both sliders and curveballs well and therefore figure to be effective against sweepers. They rank fifth in runs above replacement per 100 pitches against the curve, sixth against the slider, and eighth against the sinker.
Miami trots out Edward Cabrera and his 6.14 ERA to the mound. The 6-foot-5 hurler’s 3.76 xERA is more palatable, but his 5.10 FIP is not, and his 4.95 ERA from a year ago is discouraging.
The flamethrower issues far too many free passes with a career 5.1 walks per nine innings. That’s an issue against any team, let alone a Dodgers lineup with a double-digit walk rate (10.2%) against RHP to pair with a 112 wRC+ and .331 wOBA.
If Cabrera is chased early, Miami’s bullpen has been bad news with a 4.54 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and league-worst 5.15 FIP. L.A.’s bullpen is more taxed than usual after Sunday starter Tyler Glasnow was pulled after the first inning.
