Alec Mills (5-6, 4.76 ERA): Mills was completely miserable in his last trip to the mound, as he gave up seven runs on 12 hits in just four innings of work. Mills somehow didn’t give up a homer in that start, but that just goes to show how truly awful the performance was. For what it’s worth, the righty had been generally giving the Cubs five or so innings of three-run ball in the weeks leading up to that, so they’ll be hoping he can turn in a performance like that here.
Lance Lynn (10-3, 2.20 ERA): Lynn only gave up one run in seven innings of work against the Toronto Blue Jays in his last start, but his team didn’t end up winning that game. Lynn is definitely expecting some more run support in this one, though. That type of performance would surely make White Sox bettors happy, and it’s certainly doable. Lynn has allowed one or fewer runs in 16 of his 23 starts.

It would take some real guts to take the White Sox moneyline in this game, as the -310 odds are just horrible if you’re backing them. However, the runline is in play and parlaying the Sox with another big favorite, like the Houston Astros or Los Angeles Dodgers, would make the ML option a lot more palatable.
The reality is just that these are two teams with very different goals the rest of the season, and the mismatch on the mound in this game is remarkable.

On the other side, the Cubs don’t have many players to fear in this lineup anymore. They moved their best hitters at the deadline and now have to find a way to hit Lynn, who is 6-2 with a 2.14 ERA when pitching at home this season.

The White Sox are going to do some damage against Mills in this game, but the Under still seems like the right side here.
The Sox don’t need to score 17 every night in order to win games, especially with Lynn on the bump. Look for the White Sox to score more like five or six runs in this one, which would be plenty with the way that Lynn is throwing right now.
The righty should be in for another brilliant performance against a Cubs team that might have less firepower than anybody in the league right now.
