Starting pitchers
Anthony DeSclafani (10-3, 2.68 ERA): DeSclafani has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season, and he comes into this game after six innings of shutout ball against the Washington Nationals on July 10. The last time the righty gave up more than three earned runs in a game was against the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 23, and that was actually the only time he did it all year. He’s been as dialed in as can be.
Kwang Hyun Kim (4-5, 3.11 ERA): Kim has also been on fire recently, as the lefty has given up one or fewer earned runs in five of his last six starts. The 32-year-old most recently struck out seven batters in six shutout innings against the Chicago Cubs, and he now faces a Giants team that he dominated on July 5. Kim threw seven shutout innings in that start, and he only gave up three hits.

Moneyline pick
The last time the Giants faced Kim, the lefty absolutely dominated them. In seven innings of work, San Francisco only got three hits and wasn’t able to plate any runs. However, that experience against Kim should help the Giants make some corrections and find a little success here. This team has been solid against left-handed pitching all year, as they have the 12th-most runs against lefties this year. They’ve also hit more bombs against southpaws than all but six teams.
Not only do the Giants have success against lefties, but DeSclafani is also in a favorable spot in this game. The righty has been dynamite on the road this season, where he is 5-2 with a 2.14 ERA. Also, with this being a night game, there’s another variable that helps DeSclafani. The righty is 8-2 with a 1.93 ERA when pitching at night this season, so these bright lights should bring out the best in him at St. Louis.
PREDICTION: Giants ML (-126)
Over/Under pick
As mentioned earlier, these starters are both extremely hot coming into this matchup. In fact, three of DeSclafani’s last four starts would have gone Under tonight’s low number, and two of Kim’s last three home starts would have done the same. With each of these guys pitching so well at the moment, it’s hard to back the Over. These teams did combine to score nine runs last night, but there’s a lot more talent on the bump in this one. Don’t be surprised if this turns into a pitcher’s duel.
PREDICTION: Under 8.0 (-110)
