Starting pitchers
Johnny Cueto (7-6, 3.89 ERA): Cueto is having a solid season for the Giants, as this is his lowest ERA since 2018, but he only started nine games that year. The righty comes into this start after having given up three or fewer earned runs in five starts in a row. He’s giving San Francisco a chance to win whenever he’s out there, but the team has lost in three of his last five starts.
Taijuan Walker (7-8, 3.86 ERA): Walker gave up four runs in six innings in his most recent start, which was on the road against Dodgers on August 19. Walker did, however, give up just one run in 6.2 innings against the Dodgers in the home start before that, and New York has to be feeling good about the way the righty has looked in recent weeks. The 29-year-old also happens to be 4-2 with a 3.05 ERA at home this season.

Moneyline pick
It’d be an understatement to simply say that the Mets have been struggling lately, but that doesn’t mean they’re not capable of coming out and picking up a win over the Giants in this one. New York might be coming off a loss to San Francisco last night, but this team is bound to start winning again now that Javier Baez and Francisco Lindor are back in the lineup. Baez went 2 for 4 and led the Mets to a win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, and he just adds a whole lot of firepower to this lineup. Baez has struggled against Cueto in his career, going 0 for 12 against the righty. However, he’s due to change that in this one, and the Mets also happen to have a few other sluggers that could make the righty pay for any mistakes — with Lindor being one of them.
The real reason to back the Mets is Walker, though. The 29-year-old went through a rough stretch in the middle of the season, but he is finding his footing now. The righty has turned in three impressive performances in a row, and two of those came against an incredible Los Angeles team. Don’t be surprised if he comes out and stifles a San Francisco lineup that can be a bit hot and cold at times.
PREDICTION: Mets ML (-112)
Over/Under pick
Cueto and Walker have both been really reliable for their teams coming into this one. Cueto has turned in five good starts in a row, and Walker wasn’t intimidated by going up against the Dodgers’ explosive offense. Now, both of these pitchers have good matchups, as neither of these offenses is anything special at the moment. Sure, San Francisco did score eight runs last night, but Walker has been a lot better than Tylor Megill lately. Overall, this total seems a little too high. The Under has also hit in six of New York’s last seven games.
PREDICTION: Under 8.5 (-110)
