It appears the San Francisco Giants’ battle with the Los Angeles Dodgers will go right down to the wire so every game from here on out is important.
But it won’t be easy as the Giants open a series with the Colorado Rockies — baseball’s version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The Rockies are a completely different team when playing at Coors Field, but will Giants ace Kevin Gausman be too much for them to overcome?

Moneyline pick
The Rockies are a completely different team on the road than at home. Shockingly so. Their 45 home wins trail only the Dodgers and White Sox in MLB this season.
But the Giants are in first place in the National League West for a reason and are coming off a very important series win over the Dodgers to maintain their one-game lead in the division. Now they hand the ball to their ace for the opener.
Gausman has been one of the best pitchers in the NL all season long, pitching to a 2.52 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP while limiting opponents to a .193 batting average.
Countering Gausman is Freeland, who has been outstanding recently but did just suffer a bit of a hip injury last time out. If he can’t last long in this game, he has to hand the ball to a Rockies bullpen that ranks 27th in ERA and 28th in WHIP.
They both will face a deep and talented Giants lineup that ranks in the Top 10 in batting average, OPS, and home runs.
While the Rockies are much better at home and the starters are more even than most realize, this is a good price to back one of the best teams in baseball.
PREDICTION: Giants (-145)
Over/Under pick
When it comes to the total, there's no doubt we are getting value with the Under. The number is elevated due to the thin air at Coors Field but it’s elevated too much considering the starters on the bump.
Yes, the Rockies are a much better offense at home, but overall they rank 14th in batting average and 20th in OPS when facing right-handers this season.
Freeland, meanwhile, owns a 2.66 ERA and 1.07 WHIP over his last 13 starts and while he goes up against a deep Giants lineup, it is one that doesn’t fare as well against southpaws, ranking a mediocre 16th in batting average and OPS versus lefties.
We’re betting the Under in this one.
PREDICTION: Under 11 (-110)
