Guardians vs Yankees Predictions, Picks, Odds: Lineups Stuck in First Gear in Series' Second Game

The Guardians' offense came alive in the ninth to steal a win from the Yankees in the series opener on Monday. However, our MLB betting picks expect these beleaguered lineups to continue to put up zeroes in Game 2.

The Cleveland Guardians and New York Yankees play the middle contest of a three-game series at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Guardians posted a 3-2 victory in dramatic fashion on Monday, erasing a 2-0 deficit in the top of the ninth inning.

The Yankees were humming along after two quick runs in the bottom of the third, but closer Clay Holmes was unable to finish off the victory.

Will the Guardians be able to win again, getting back to .500 overall, or will the Yankees get back into the win column after the disappointment? We’ll discuss in our MLB picks and predictions for Guardians vs. Yankees on Tuesday, May 2.

Guardians vs Yankees odds

Guardians vs Yankees predictions

The Guardians managed just four total hits in Monday’s series opener, and all of the knocks came from the top four batters in the order.

Cleveland actually had just one hit going into the ninth inning, as Domingo German had it going on. He needed just 88 pitches to go 8 1/3 innings, but after giving up a single to Steven Kwan, the Yankees made a call to the bullpen. Big mistake by manager Aaron Boone.

It was a series of errors and base hits which led to the undoing of the Yankees. Clay Holmes was terrible in the appearance, and he even committed an error.

Emmanuel Clase shut down New York in the bottom of the ninth, doing his job, and the All-Star closer was a big difference late.

The Yankees were also missing a big bat, as Aaron Judge is on the injured list. New York has now scored three or fewer runs in 14 of the past 18 games, and it doesn’t help that Judge is on the shelf with Josh Donaldson and Giancarlo Stanton. The good news is that Harrison Bader might be ready to make his season debut after battling an oblique injury in the spring.

While the Yankees are struggling to score runs, you can expect the Guardians to struggle to get the offense going Tuesday, too. Gerrit Cole will be on the bump, and he has a 1.11 ERA with a 5-0 record. That includes an 11-2 win in Cleveland on April 11, as he allowed just two runs and five hits across seven innings.

While the Yankees could get well against rookie hurler Tanner Bibee, the offense is shorthanded. Look for the total to go low, and keep playing that in Guardians and Yankees games until further notice.

Guardians vs Yankees moneyline analysis

The Guardians scratched and clawed for a victory in the series opener, winning in the most unlikely of ways. While Cleveland is still a game under .500, going 4-9 in the past 13 overall, the Guardians are an impressive 20-9 in the past 29 games overall.

The Guardians are also 6-2 in the past eight games against a right-handed starter, while going 22-6 in the past 28 on the road vs. RHPs.

For the Yankees, they’re a dismal 1-5 in the past six games after a loss, and New York has dropped four in a row to slip to .500.

The Bronx Bombers have won 73 of the past 108 tries in Game 2 of a series, which is a .676 winning percentage. However, New York is just 1-6 in its past seven tries against a right-handed starter.

It’s difficult to make a pick on a winner. Cleveland really struggled with the twig in Monday’s series opener, collecting just two hits in eight scoreless innings before the strange ninth. Facing Cole won’t alleviate those struggles.

For the Yankees, they’re too banged-up to trust. The lean is to the Yankees because of Cole, but go lightly.

Guardians vs Yankees Over/Under analysis

The Under is 6-1 in the past seven games between these two teams, while going 6-1 in the past seven games on the road, too. That includes Game 1 of this series on Monday.

The Under is also 5-1 in the past six for the Guardians against a right-handed starting pitcher, while going 20-7 in their past 27 against AL East foes.

For the Yankees, the Under is on a 20-6 run in the past 26 games at home, while cashing in five of the past seven against AL Central opponents, and 9-2-1 in the past 12 vs. RHPs.

With the Yankees so banged-up, they won’t quite be Bronx Bombers in Tuesday’s Game 2.

Guardians vs Yankees betting preview

Starting pitchers

Tanner Bibee (1-0, 1.59 ERA): The rookie made his major league debut against the Colorado Rockies, allowing one run on six hits with no walks and eight strikeouts across 5 2/3 innings in a win last Wednesday in a 91-pitch effort. He's the No. 5-rated prospect in the Guardians' system, and No. 57 overall.

Gerrit Cole (5-0, 1.11 ERA): The 32-year-old has won five of his first six starts, including the victory April 11 in Cleveland. He has five quality starts in his six outings, too, lasting at least six frames in five of the assignments. He has eight or more strikeouts on three occasions, although Cleveland whiffed just three times in the first meeting, Cole’s lowest total of the season.
