It’s a National League East showdown at Truist Park with the 2-8 Atlanta Braves hosting the 7-3 Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday, April 9.

The two teams couldn’t be off to more opposite starts to the season, and my top Phillies vs. Braves predictions and MLB picks are calling for oodles of crooked numbers on the scoreboard tonight.

Phillies vs Braves prediction

My Phillies vs Braves best bet: Over 8.5 (-115 at bet365)

Philadelphia Phillies righty Taijuan Walker shined in his season debut with six scoreless innings against the Colorado Rockies. I’m not expecting a flawless follow up.

Walker posted a 5.27 ERA and 4.98 xFIP across 256 1/3 innings the previous two years, and the Atlanta Braves have too many proven hitters to be sporting a 27th-ranked .275 wOBA and 29th-ranked .094 ISO against right-handed pitchers through 10 games.

After all, a very similar Atlanta lineup posted .308 and .166 marks last year against righties while averaging an overall 4.35 runs per game. The Braves have only scored 3.1 per to start 2025.

Philadelphia should also have a solid game at the dish with Atlanta righty Grant Holmes sporting a career 4.54 ERA as a starter and allowing four earned runs across four innings to the Los Angeles Dodgers last time out.

The Phillies are also off to an explosive start against righties with a fifth-ranked .357 wOBA supported by a second-ranked .371 on-base percentage and league-high 14.8 BB%.

Phillies vs Braves same-game parlay (SGP)

Over 8.5

Bryce Harper Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI

Matt Olson Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI

I’m going with a pair of proven hitters against righties who slug in the heart of the order to do damage on the diamond Wednesday. Phillies star Bryce Harper posted a high-end .382 wOBA, .234 ISO and .384 on-base percentage against right-handed arms over the past three years, and Braves first baseman Matt Olson was every bit as dangerous with respective .376, .269 and .360 marks.

Harper has been solid out of the gate with a .348 batting average and .440 wOBA against righties, too.

Like most Braves, 2025 hasn’t been kind to Olson, but he has positive regression ahead of his 5-for-28 start against right-handed pitchers. Plus, as noted, this should prove to be a favorable pitching matchup. Olson is also 3-for-11 with three RBI and a .883 OPS against Walker during his career.
