A getaway day, a doubleheader, and a 14-game schedule means hungry baseball bettors can feast on MLB props all day long.

The bulldog Jon Lester looks like he may be on his last legs with the St. Louis Cardinals — can the Detroit Tigers take advantage? And you may not know this but Cleveland shortstop Amed Rosario is the hottest hitter in baseball... and we believe he'll keep rolling against the Texas Rangers tonight.

We break down and pick these games and more with our best free MLB prop bets and predictions for Wednesday, August 25.

Today’s MLB props and picks

Tigers Over 2.5 Five-Inning Team Total (+120)

The Cardinals sure made some interesting moves at the trade deadline bringing in multiple, um, older southpaws to join the rotation for a team that had very little hope of reaching the postseason. Speaking of that, Lester takes the ball this afternoon as the Cardinals host the Tigers.

Lester has made four starts for the Cards and for the most part it has not gone well. The lefty is pitching to a 7.08 ERA, is allowing opponents to hit .337, and has just eight strikeouts in 20 1-3 innings with St. Louis.

The advanced stats don’t do Lester any favors, either. He ranks in the bottom 18th percentile in both expected ERA and expected batting average, and in the bottom fifth percentile in strikeout percentage and whiff percentage. So, basically, he’s throwing a bunch of BP fastballs.

Now he faces a Tigers team that surprisingly ranks seventh in batting average and 11th in scoring when it comes to facing left-handed pitching. Bet the Tigers to go Over their first-half team total in this one.

White Sox-Blue Jays Under 4.5 Five-Inning Total (-125)

The Chicago White Sox and Toronto Blue Jays play game No. 3 of their four-game set and after the first two games turned out to be low-scoring affairs, tonight’s matchup is shaping up for more of the same.

The White Sox hand the ball to Lucas Giolito and, while the right-hander hasn’t been as dominant as he would like, it looks like he is coming into form at the right time. Giolito has limited opponents to two earned runs or fewer in seven of his last eight starts, pitching to a 2.92 ERA, and is limiting teams to a .213 batting average in those games.

He faces a Jays team that was one of the best at hitting right-handers all season long but is in a real slump right now. Toronto has lost eight of its last 11 games, plating just 3.45 runs per contest over that stretch.

The Jays counter with lefty Robbie Ray. If you had told me at the beginning of the year that Ray would be one of the betting favorites to win the AL Cy Young award at the end of August, let alone be the Jays best pitcher, I would have called you crazy. But here we are.

Ray is sporting a 2.79 ERA with a 1.03 WHIP while ranking third in the AL in strikeouts per nine innings, and he has been even better lately. Over his last nine starts, Ray has a 1.93 ERA while limiting opponents to a .183 batting average.

The White Sox have done a decent job against lefties this season, but Ray has taken his game to another level. Bet the Under first five in this one.

Amed Rosario Over 1.5 Total Bases (-110)

Amed Rosario of the soon-to-be Cleveland Guardians is quietly one of the hottest hitters in baseball at the moment. He’ll look to stay hot in a matchup against the Rangers tonight.

Rosario has been absolutely locked in. The shortstop is currently in the midst of a 10-game hit streak where he owns a .409 batting average and a 1.129 OPS, and he has gone Over 1.5 total bases seven times over that stretch.

Today he faces Rangers starter Jake Latz, who is making his big-league debut. Latz is a lefty who pitched to a 4.98 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP between AA and AAA this season but has 93 strikeouts in 72 1-3 innings.

Unfortunately for Latz, Rosario loves facing lefties, getting to them for a .338 batting average and a .910 OPS this season. Bet on Rosario to stay hot in this one.

It’s not an interesting story. Seriously.
