Mix a getaway day with some doubleheaders and that means we’ve got a loaded 16-game MLB schedule full of baseball prop betting potential.

We start the day by looking at one of our favorite pitchers to fade and the hit parade that is sure to follow, and close with one of the most reliable bets and inning eaters in the game as Zack Wheeler takes the ball for the Philadelphia Phillies.

We break down and pick these games and more with our best free MLB prop bets and predictions for Wednesday, July 28.

Today’s MLB props and picks

J.A. Happ Over 6.5 Hits Allowed (+120)

Happy Fade Happ Day! Yup, Minnesota Twins starter J.A. Happ takes the ball today and you know the hits are going to come.

The Minnesota Twins lefty is in the middle of a nine-start stretch where he is pitching to a 6.98 ERA and is allowing opponents to hit a whopping .340. Next up to play Whack-A-Happ is the suddenly-playing-well Detroit Tigers. The Tigers have won eight of their 12 games coming out of the All-Star break, plating 6.17 runs per game, ranking eighth in batting average and seventh in OPS.

While seven hits may seem like a high number it’s deserved with Happ in this spot. He is allowing eight hits per game over that nine-game stretch, allowing seven or more hits seven times. That includes two games against the Tigers where he allowed eight hits and then another 11 in the next contest.

When you factor in the plus-money value here this bet is too tempting to pass up.

Cardinals Five-Inning Moneyline (+115)

Who’s ready for some KBO content! Well, here it is!

St. Louis Cardinals starter and former KBO star Kwang-hyun Kim is one of the hottest starters in all of baseball right now and will look to keep dealing when he faces the Cleveland Guardians this afternoon.

Kim has looked close to unhittable over the last month or so, pitching to a 0.90 ERA and limiting opponents to a minuscule .155 batting average over his past five starts. And the lefty has a great chance to keep that going against Cleveland.

That’s because Cleveland really struggles to hit southpaws. They rank next-to-last in batting average and 25th in OPS when it comes to facing left-handed pitchers this season. Getting plus money on the Cardinals' five-inning moneyline seems like a great bet in this spot.

Zack Wheeler Over 19.5 Outs Recorded (-115)

Our favorite innings eater is on the mound today as Wheeler takes the ball for the Phillies as they host the Washington Nationals.

Wheeler is having a fantastic season for the Phillies, pitching to a 2.37 ERA, a 1.01 WHIP, and he's striking out nearly 11 batters per nine innings. But most impressive of all is how reliable Wheeler is when he takes the ball.

The right-hander leads MLB in innings pitched with 132.2 and has pitched at least six innings in 15 of his 20 starts this season. But for this bet to cash, we need him to go at least 6 2-3 but we think he can do it tonight against the Nats.

Wheeler has recorded 20 or more outs 11 times in his last 16 starts. He has made three starts against the Nationals in that span going 6, 7 1-3, and 3 innings. While the Nats have done a decent job against Wheeler, last night they lost Trea Turner to COVID and Victor Robles to an oblique injury. That doesn’t help a lineup that is already missing Kyle Schwarber and Yan Gomes.

Bet on Wheeler to keep rolling up the innings in this one.
