Arch Deluxe
The Minnesota Twins host the Colorado Rockies this evening as -188 home faves. Chris Archer will toe the rubber for the Twins today, and he's been very solid this year, pitching to a 3.44 ERA with an OBA of .228 in 13 starts — his best numbers since 2015.
Per usual, the Rockies can't hit away from Coors Field, ranking 26th in the majors with an OPS of .639 on the road. That has us taking a look at the Under 4.5 on Archer's hits allowed prop tonight.
Archer has allowed fewer than five hits in six of his last seven games. Another reason why we like this play is that the right-hander seldom pitches deep. He has pitched more than four innings in just a pair of starts this year, both outings where he came out after the fifth inning.
Chris Archer prop pick: Under 4.5 hits allowed (-126)
Rhys' Pieces
Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins had a strong 2021 campaign where he clubbed 27 homers and 29 doubles with a slugging percentage of .530 in just 107 games.
While he got off to a slow start this year, he has since picked up steam, slashing .313/.421/.588 with 47 total bases in 22 games this month. Today, Hoskins and the Phillies look to bounce back from getting shut out last night as they face off against the Padres and southpaw Blake Snell.
Snell has been banged up and struggling this season, pitching to a 5.46 ERA with a 1.45 WHIP in six starts. He hasn't been any better in the pitcher-friendly confines of Petco Park where he has a 5.28 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP across three starts.
With Hoskins crushing southpaws to the tune of a 1.055 OPS, take the Over 1.5 on his total bases tonight.
Rhys Hoskins prop pick: Over 1.5 total bases (+110)
No doubt about Trout
After a couple of injury-plagued seasons, three-time AL MVP Mike Trout is back to being healthy and doing what he does best: mashing. Trout is tied for fourth in the majors with 151 total bases despite missing nine games earlier in the season.
The dominant outfielder is second in the majors with an OPS of 1.053 and has been even better lately, boasting an absurd 1.315 OPS over the last 15 days. Tonight, Trout and the Angels host the Seattle Mariners, who will send Logan Gilbert to the hill.
Gilbert has an impressive 2.28 ERA in 14 starts but his analytics suggest he could be due for some major regression, especially away from T-Mobile Park. Gilbert has an expected ERA of 3.92 and ranks among the bottom fifth percentile of pitchers when it comes to hard-hit percentage (48.2%) and average exit velocity (91.5 MPH).
Trout is ninth in the majors with a 54.2 HH% while ranking 16th with an average exit velocity of 92.6 mph. With Trout having an incredible .812 slugging percentage at home, I'm hammering the Over 1.5 on his total bases.
Mike Trout prop pick: Over 1.5 total bases (-118)
