My analysis
New York Yankees OF Juan Soto has been a welcome addition since joining the roster in an offseason trade with the Padres.
Soto is hitting everything on the button with the highest barrel percentage of his career. The 25-year-old slugger leads the Yankees in multiple offensive categories and is on pace to have a career year in numerous statistical categories.
Friday night was the first time Soto was hitless in 10 games, but he has a great chance to begin a new hitting streak with a tasty matchup against Detroit Tigers righty Casey Mize.
Mize boasts a four-seamer/slider combo that has been tough on left-handed hitters, but his advanced numbers tell us his 4.45 xFIP against left-handed lumber is nearly two points higher than his FIP, which could mean Mize has likely been more lucky than good.
Being lucky against lefties is less than ideal when facing Soto; the Yankees OF has been just pure good, and he will make Mize pay today at Yankee Stadium.
Soto is crushing four-seamers, sliders, and everything else hurled his way. He’s batting .320 on the season but has also been unlucky; his .445 wOBA and 12.5 barrel rate suggest the best is yet to come for the Yankees OF. Soto boasts the highest pull rate of his career, which could improve as left-handed bats pull 35% of Mize’s pitches.
Soto has an edge here and should have a big day at the plate.
Tigers vs Yankees same-game parlay (SGP)
Our three-leg same-game parlay features two additional Yankees in line for big days.
Yankees 1B Anthony Rizzo is heating up. Rizzo bats .237, but his .330 wOBA suggests he’s also been unlucky. The veteran first-baseman has cleared 1+ total bases in two of his last three and six of his previous 10.
Yankees OF Aaron Judge is hitting only .200 thus far but his .323 wOBA suggests he’s also been unlucky. He loves hitting at Yankee Stadium; the 32-year-old slugger has recorded one hit in three of his previous five in the Bronx and across five of his last 10 matchups overall.
