Starting pitchers
John Gant (5-9, 3.78 ERA): Gant was acquired by Minnesota at the trade deadline and has jumped between the bullpen and rotation. He has a 4.85 ERA in 11 appearances with the Twins but is coming off an exceptional start against Cleveland, where he scattered three hits and zero runs across five innings.
Luis Gil (1-0, 1.42 ERA): The talented young right-hander imploded in his last outing on September 8, allowing three runs and walking seven batters before getting the hook midway through the fourth inning. In his first three career appearances, Gil pitched 15 2-3 innings of shutout ball where he allowed just nine hits.

Betting trend to know

Moneyline pick
The Twins are 17 games below .500 and well outside of the postseason picture as they head to the Big Apple for a one-off against the Yankees. The Yankees are in the thick of the Wild Card race sitting just one game behind division rivals Boston and Toronto.
It's been a roller-coaster season for Aaron Boone's squad. The Yankees were hovering around .500 just after the All-Star break, went on a sizzling 13 game win streak in August to jump back into the playoff picture but have now lost eight of their last nine games — and 12 of their last 15.
It's hard to imagine that these two teams both broke the MLB record for home runs in a season just two years ago. Despite loaded lineups, both the Twins and Yankees have struggled to consistently generate runs in 2021. The Twins are 11th in the majors with an OPS of .736 while ranking 15th with 4.5 runs per game, while the Yankees are 15th in OPS (.723) and 20th in runs per game with 4.33.
Minnesota will send John Gant to the mound in this one and the veteran has had mixed results as a starter pitching to a 4.06 ERA with a WHIP of 1.52. That said, his counterpart, Luis Gil, has looked even shakier lately. The 23-year-old has potential but he needs to establish a third pitch and the control issues that have plagued him throughout his minor league career seem to have resurfaced — Gil has walked 11 batters in his last eight innings pitched.
Neither team has looked impressive lately but the Yankees' recent slide is particularly ugly and they could be fatigued after playing just 14 hours ago. It's hard to back them at -200 with a struggling lineup and a green starting pitcher who can't find the strike zone. Take the Twins at plus money as road dogs.
PREDICTION: Minnesota (+165)
Over/Under pick
The Over/Under opened at a whopping 10.5 for this game before dropping to 10. Although there are question marks about both starters, Gil has also flashed his potential in his brief appearances while Gant has looked sharp in his last pair of outings.
Both teams have also really struggled at the plate recently. Over the last 15 days, the Yankees are 24th in the majors with an OPS of .670 while plating 3.93 runs per game, while the Twins are 24th in OPS at .666 while averaging just 3.36 runs per contest during the same span.
With the Under going 11-4-1 in Minnesota's last 16 games, back it again this afternoon.
PREDICTION: Under 10 (-110)
