The Texas Rangers have gotten to this point off the back of their incredible offensive attack, and no man has more expectations on his shoulders entering Friday’s first game than Corey Seager.

I’ll admit, my first inclination here was to take the Under on Seager’s total bases prop. After all, he has poor expected numbers versus Diamondbacks starter Zac Gallen in his career, and it’s not like he was the most consistent hitter in the world during the ALCS.

With that said, most of Seager’s history with Gallen came when he played for the Dodgers. This version of Gallen is a notch below the version Seager’s had to face the majority of his career. The right-hander has pitched to fewer strikeouts and more home runs this season.

Seager checks all the boxes here. He was a .349 hitter against fly-ball pitchers, he preferred to hit righties, and he hit a solid .337 at home compared to .316 on the road.

I see plenty of issues with the way Gallen has pitched all postseason, allowing nine earned runs in the NLCS to bring his ERA for the playoffs to a poor 5.24. He also hasn’t walked many, which means you should see Seager get plenty back into play with a high hit probability.

I’m going kick it up a notch here. While I think Seager should have no issues registering an extra-base hit or multiple hits here, I think there are going to be quite a few home runs hit by the Rangers off of Gallen. The right-hander allowed a whopping 22 during the regular season and recorded the worst hard-hit rate of his career, which jives with his increased fly-ball rate.

The Rangers hit the second-most homers in the league at their own ballpark this year, which makes perfect sense given the hitter-friendly nature of Globe Life Field, and Seager himself clubbed 23 of his 33 round-trippers at home during the regular season. He also has two homers in his last four games, so there should no longer be any concerns about him falling into a slump.

Given what I think about Gallen, I love the Rangers in this spot. The Diamondbacks are a ground-ball team, and they will not only be facing an expert ground-baller in Nathan Eovaldi, but one of the best infield defenses in baseball by the metrics.

Give me the Rangers to win here behind a home run from Seager.
