The Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees will continue their three-game series Saturday after the Sox walked it off in the cornfields of Iowa 9-8 on Thursday in a Field of Dreams thriller.
The White Sox are getting back to full strength but will have to prove it against the best pitcher in baseball since July 1 in New York’s Jameson Taillon.

Starting pitchers
Jameson Taillon (7-4, 3.82 ERA): It may surprise some, but Jameson Taillon has the lowest ERA in baseball since July 1 at 1.25. Over that time, opponents are hitting .183 against the New York starter and he’s 4-0 in seven starts, allowing just six earned runs in 43 1-3 innings. He’s seen the White Sox once this year and spun five scoreless innings and allowed just two hits in a 5-4 win back in May. New York is 8-1 SU in Taillon’s last nine starts.
Dylan Cease (9-6, 3.99 ERA): Dylan Cease has made five starts since the All-Star break and has given up at least three runs in four of those matches. He has hit double-digit strikeouts in three of those five and has surrendered just two home runs over his last 27 2-3 innings. However, as with most strikeout pitchers, getting deep is an issue with just two of his last seven starts going at least six frames. The Yankees tagged him for five runs over 4 1-3 innings back in May and the Sox are 6-4 SU in his last 10 turns.

Moneyline pick
The Chicago White Sox have an 11-game lead in the AL Central and are the favorites to win the American League at some books. The scary thing is that this squad is getting healthier at the right moment.
Eloy Jimenez made his season debut just over two weeks ago and has already mashed six home runs in 49 at-bats. Getting your clean-up hitter back is a major boost to any lineup. Luis Robert, who finished second in AL ROY voting a season ago while also capturing a Golden Glove, has returned after missing two months. He leads the team with a .311 average. Even for a pitcher as hot as Jameson Taillon, this is a tough lineup to navigate.
Taillon hasn’t taken a loss since late May and the Yankees are 8-1 SU in his last nine starts, but that stretch does include Kansas City (twice, Baltimore, Miami, Seattle, and two games versus a struggling Boston team. Regression is coming for the right-hander, who is pitching to 1.25 ERA since July yet owns a career ERA of 3.70 which is still respectable. Taillon is a good-to-great pitcher but also walks too many and gives up home runs as he leads the Yankees in both those categories.
Facing a strikeout pitcher may not be the best thing for a New York lineup as Dylan Cease sits in the Top-10 in K/9 at 11.99. The Yankees struck out 14 times on Thursday while newcomer Joey Gallo has 12 punchouts in 23 at-bats since joining the Bombers. Gallo is making Giancarlo Stanton look like a contact hitter. To add, Luke Voit, who hits behind Gallo in the order, has eight strikeouts in his last 20 at-bats since returning to the lineup. Cease has hit double-digit strikeouts in three of his last five starts and there’s a good chance he could do it again on Saturday.
Chicago backers shouldn't let Thursday’s late-inning collapse scare them from putting their money on the home team. The Sox have the fourth-best bullpen WAR, per Fangraphs, and that was before they added Craig Kimbrel. The Sox have a great seven-eight-nine bullpen and can even bridge four innings if Cease only goes five.
Getting the White Sox at home at -125 is not a very common occurrence as they have the best home record by far in the American League at 39-20 SU.
PREDICTION: Chicago ML (-125)
Over/Under pick
The New York Yankees have cashed more Under bets than any other team in baseball with a 41-63 O/U mark on the year. They’re 21-33 O/U on the road and face a White Sox team that is near .500 O/U but own a 24-31 O/U record at home.
Chicago has done a hell of a job keeping their opponents off the board at Guaranteed Rate Field, as their 3.59 runs per game against is the fourth-lowest mark in baseball. Also bad news for Over bettors is that the New York offense struggles on the road, with a bottom-10 4.02 runs per game mark and a .237 average on the season.
Cease hasn’t allowed a home run over his last three starts, which will be key to hitting the Under on Saturday as the Yankees rely heavily on the longball. The Chicago starter has also given up three or fewer runs in six straight starts and owns a filthy 2.20 ERA over seven starts at home.
Taillon has allowed two or fewer runs in each of his last seven starts and if he can suppress this talented Chicago lineup, this could be a sweatless Under. We are a little worried that the right-hander is pitching over his head and is due for a clunker, but he’s allowed just three homers and 28 hits over his last 43 1-3 innings.
The wind is blowing on Saturday with temperatures not too hot but at 50-60 percent humidity which, combined with the wind, should help keep the ball in the park.
