Yankees vs White Sox betting preview

Starting pitchers

Jordan Montgomery (0-1, 2.90 ERA): Jordan Montgomery has been handled with a deft touch by manager Aaron Boone this season, and it has paid off dividends.

The 29-year-old southpaw sports a 0.935 WHIP – 10th in the majors – through six starts. Montgomery has completed six innings of work only twice this season, but has thrown no more than 86 pitches in an outing. His strikeout/walk ratio is a robust 25-5 through 31 innings.

Dallas Keuchel (2-3, 6.86 ERA): It’s been a rocky start to the season for Dallas Keuchel, but he’s showing signs of straightening himself out.

Keuchel recorded his first quality start of the campaign last Sunday, when he held the Red Sox to two runs over six frames. That five-strikeout, one-walk effort helped bring his K/BB ratio to above 1.00 for the year (13-12).

Yankees vs White Sox picks and predictions

Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.

Moneyline analysis

The Yankees’ lineup is showing no signs of slowing down in the Second City, and they should build on their first two performances Saturday night.

Dallas Keuchel was one of best pitchers in baseball in the shortened 2020 campaign (6-2, 1.99 ERA), but that version of him has vanished. He owns a dismal 5.46 ERA since the start of last season, along with a 108-71 strikeout/walk ratio. This plays right into the hands of New York, which is 13th in strikeouts and fifth in walks this season while sporting the highest OPS (.755) in the majors.

After teeing off on the White Sox pitching staff for 15 and 10 runs, respectively, in the first two games of this series, just about any Bomber bat is fair game to get a hit in the prop markets. Aaron Judge and Isiah Kiner-Falefa are an identical 4-for-11 (.364) lifetime against Keuchel, so they look like the safest wagers in that department. Judge, in particular, has been mashing the ball of late, batting .326 with six homers and 14 RBI to begin them month of May.

Jordan Montgomery should hold up his end the bargain on the mound, as he’s bounced back from a rough opening week effort (three earned runs over 3 1/3 innings) to pitch to a 2.28 ERA in five subsequent appearances. He’s yet to record more than 18 outs in a start this year, but the Yankees bullpen is more than capable of picking up the slack.

Bomber relievers have authored a 1.98 ERA over the last two weeks, good for second in the majors behind only the red-hot Houston Astros. By contrast, Chicago’s relief corps has produced a 4.34 ERA in that same span, 16th in baseball.

The trends favor the Yankees too, as they’re 8-1 in their last nine against teams with losing records, and 7-1 in their last eight road games. New York is also 20-6 in their last 26 games as the betting favorite. The South Siders are 4-9 in their last 13 games following a loss, and 13-39 in their last 52 games as an underdog.

Prediction: Yankees moneyline (-152 at Unibet)

Over/Under analysis

The Yankees have exceeded the total themselves in their last two games, so Over bettors shouldn’t hesitate to go back to the well in this spot.

Giancarlo Stanton has dealt a ton of damage in this series already, hitting three dingers while driving in eight runs. He’s up to six round-trippers and 16 RBI in May with a robust .316 average. Keuchel doesn’t seem up to the task of slowing the former NL MVP down, as Stanton is 4-for-9 (.444) lifetime against him with two homers and five RBI.

Josh Donaldson has been making it rain runs too, posting identical 2-for-5 days at the dish at Guaranteed Rate Field with a combined two four-baggers and six RBI.

The White Sox have not been hopelessly outgunned through two games, scoring 11 runs of their own. They’re fifth in the majors in OPS against lefties this year (.753), suggesting that this lineup could get to Montgomery early.

If Chicago gets their bats going, Luis Robert is likely to add some gasoline to the fire. He’s batting an eye-popping .405 this month through 42 at-bats.

The Over is 5-1 in the Yankees’ last six games against left-handed starters, and 7-1 in the last eight meetings between these two teams in Chicago

Prediction: Over 8.5 (-115 at DraftKings)

Best bet

The Yankees are third in baseball in runs per game (5.00), and have plated at least five in four straight contests. They should keep right on rolling against the White Sox this Saturday.

DJ LeMahieu and Gleyber Torres have been setting the table, and Judge and Stanton have followed through this season. The scorching lineup will take on a vulnerable starter in Keuchel, and an equally-mediocre bullpen that’s 21st in the majors in ERA (4.05) this year.

Homers may be down across the board in baseball, but the Yankees are still jumping the yard at a feverish rate, as they’re first in longballs with 48 through 32 games. Look for them to continue using the home run to their advantage.

Pick: Yankees TT Over 4.5 (-134 at Unibet)
