Respective unbeaten streaks are on the line as Inter Miami hosts Toronto FC in an all-important clash with playoff implications. The hosts are unbeaten in four matches overall and three at DRV PNK Stadium.

Currently in eighth place but level on points with Orlando City SC for seventh, the Herons are making a late-season push for the playoffs. A resurgent Toronto FC, unbeaten in five matches, hopes to crash the Inter Miami party on Saturday.

A point in Fort Lauderdale would represent Toronto FC’s longest unbeaten streak since reeling off nine without a loss in October and September of 2020.

Find out who holds the betting edge in our MLS picks and predictions for Inter Miami vs. Toronto FC on Saturday, August 20.

Inter Miami vs Toronto FC predictions

Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.

Side analysis

Spearheaded by the signings of three influential, pedigreed Italians, the north-of-the-border revitalization is well and truly on. Left-back Domenico Criscito joined from Serie A side Genoa in late June, while the other two additions, Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi, recently debuted in Toronto FC’s dominant 4-0 win over Charlotte on July 23.

Since the latter pair’s arrival, Toronto has taken 10 of 12 points and hasn’t lost a match. They won back-to-back games for the first time in almost five months and secured their first victory on the road, a 4-3 triumph over Nashville. The inspired Italian trio has combined to score the last four and six of the previous seven Toronto goals.

With three wins and two draws in their last five outings, Toronto FC is doing its utmost to rise from oblivion to snatch a playoff berth. The looming question is whether Bradley’s side has left themselves too much ground to make up. They’ve played a match more than most direct competitors and are in 11th place, though only four points separate Toronto FC from fifth place, by no means an insurmountable margin.

By beating Nashville on Aug. 6, Toronto finally vanquished a 19-match road winless streak. Collecting just seven points from 12 matches, they have the dubious title of the Eastern Conference’s worst road team. Only Atlanta United and DC United have collected as few points. Ten of those matches, though, were without their recently signed Italians. Toronto is unbeaten in two away tests with the terrific trifecta in the team.

Inter Miami, too, is enjoying a fruitful patch of play, particularly at home. The Herons have the fourth-best home record in the conference and have suffered defeat just once in their previous eight at DRC PNK Stadium. Phil Neville’s side has won three in a row against Toronto and is looking to win successive matches for the first time since late May.

You won’t be shocked to hear that both of those wins — over the Red Bulls and Portland — occurred at home. However, with the injection of its newfound scoring prowess, Toronto is flush with confidence and self-belief.

Bradley’s side needs to run the table if they intend on securing a postseason berth, an outcome that becomes more feasible with each passing week. Look for Toronto to win 2-1 in an entertaining, hard-fought contest.

Prediction: Toronto FC (+165 at BetMGM)

Over/Under analysis

This match is tailor-fit for the Over. The Herons have the third most home goals (25) in the conference and have conceded the second most (22). In addition, their previous six home contests resulted in the Over, and five of the last seven overall saw three goals or more.

Toronto's last three games have all hit the Over. The concentration of these high-scoring affairs is, in large part, due to Bernardeschi and Insigne’s arrivals.

Prediction: Over 2.5 (-213 at BetMGM)

Best bet

Toronto has scored in four of its previous five games. A rash of goals accompanied Bernardeschi and Insigne’s arrival, with 15 combined in Toronto’s three recent matches. Inter’s games are also accustomed to seeing the twine bulge.

Inter has scored in six of seven previous encounters, and the last five matches have seen 20 combined goals.

Pick: Toronto FC to win and both teams to score (+220 at BetMGM)
