The Cleveland Cavaliers have done the unfathomable and (pause for dramatic effect) lost two basketball games in a row.

Shockingly, I am not worried about the Cavs as they head to the West Coast to take on the Sacramento Kings. In fact, those losses might just be giving us a little value in tonight’s matchup.

My Cavaliers vs. Kings predictions break it all down and bring you my NBA picks for this game set to tip off at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento at 10 pm ET on Wednesday, March 19.

Cavaliers vs Kings prediction

My best bet: Cavaliers -5 (-110 at bet365)

My analysis
The Cleveland Cavaliers are coming off back-to-back losses for just the third time this season but I’m not too worried about that heading into tonight’s road game against the Sacramento Kings, even if it is the second half of a back-to-back.

At this point, the Cavaliers are cruising towards the playoffs and the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference thanks to their recently-ended 16-game winning streak, extending their lead over the Boston Celtics to 6.5 games.

With Donovan Mitchell leading the way, it’s going for anyone to stop this Cavs team, that enters tonight’s matchup with the Kings tops in the NBA in offensive rating and second in net rating.

It will be even harder for a Kings team that ranks 20th in defensive rating since the All-Star break and will be without their best player in Domantas Sabonis who is out with an ankle injury. And a team that trots out DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, and Malik Monk is going to struggle defensively, especially against the best offense in the NBA.

Sacramento is still fighting for a play-in spot in the West but has lost five of its last seven games, allowing 116 or more points five times during that period.

These teams last met on Feb. 5 in Cleveland with the Cavs pummeling the Kings 136-110 as 4.5-point home favorites. But that was when Sacramento still had De’Aaron Fox. And Sabonis played in that game.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Cleveland is better now and Sacramento is worse.

The Kings only saving grace here is that the Cavs are playing their second game in as many nights following a 132-119 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. That is the only reason the Cavs are laying just five points in this matchup.

The Cavs have also been pretty solid in back-to-backs this season, going 10-3 straight up and 7-6 against the spread, including going 5-3 ATS when laying 9.5 points or fewer.

As of early Wednesday afternoon Cleveland’s injury report is clear and the coaching staff has yet to give any indication that its star players will rest. Keep an eye on their status leading up to tipoff, but with that in mind, I’m laying the points with the Cavaliers tonight, who have been one of the best bets in the NBA all season long.

Cavaliers vs Kings same-game parlay

Cavaliers -5

Max Strus Over 2.5 threes

Keegan Murray Over 1.5 assists

30% boost available

If the Cavaliers do rest some players, I’m guessing Max Strus won’t be one of them. Strus is averaging  9.4 points while shooting 38.5% from 3-point range this season but he is starting to see more minutes and find his rhythm.

Over the last nine games that scoring average is up to 12.1 points and he’s shooting 41% from beyond the arc. The Kings are terrible at defending the perimeter ranking 29th in opponent-made threes per game and dead last in opponent 3-point shooting percentage. So, let’s add Strus Over 2.5 threes to this same-game parlay. Something he has done five times in this nine-game period.

If the Kings want to compete in this game they’re going to have to make the extra pass. It’s not like the Cavs give up a ton of assists but they rank ninth in opponent assists per possession since the All-Star break.

So, give me Keegan Murray Over 1.5 assists to round out this SGP. Murray averages 1.4 assists per game this season but that is up to 1.7 over the last 15 games and has dished out two or more dimes nine times.

This SGP can be profit-boosted by 30% at bet365 tonight!

Cavaliers vs Kings spread and Over/Under analysis

  • The Kings opened this NBA matchup as 5-point home underdogs and that's where the line remains as of Wednesday afternoon.
  • This line feels a little short considering how much better the Cavs are than the Kings. Keep an eye on the status of Cleveland's best players as the team will play its second game in as many nights.
  • The total hit the board at 234.5 and early bettors jumped on the Over, moving the number up to 236.5.
  • The move makes sense. The Cavs could get some heavy legs on defense as the game moves along while the Kings are a prototypical Over team with their solid offense and poor defense. The Kings are 4-1 to the Over in the last five games.

When his dreams of becoming the next Steve Nash died, all Andrew “Taco” Caley wanted to do was write about sports, something he’s been doing at Covers for more than a decade. A Journalism School grad from Holland College in Charlottetown, PEI, Andrew previously worked at The Chronicle Herald and Star Metro, but knew in his heart that his future lay in sports. He began at Covers as a news editor and has now done everything under the sun when it comes to content. His work has been seen on TSN, Sportsnet, VSiN, and CBS.

These days Andrew’s betting expertise is focused on his favorite teams – the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Raptors. He’s also an avid college football fan and bettor. He can’t be friends with you if you don’t appreciate a Service Academy Under. You can also call him Covers’ Sixth Man, as he regularly steps up to guest host Before You Bet and our MLB and NCAAF release shows.

The sportsbook where he does the bulk of his betting is bet365 thanks to its numerous prop betting options and competitive odds. His best advice? Find the balance between the numbers and what you see on the playing field. Then find the best price using multiple books. And don’t ask him where the nickname Taco comes from. It’s not an interesting story. Seriously.
