The Toronto Raptors have been looking over their shoulders at the San Antonio Spurs lately in the race for lottery odds, but that jeopardy is off the table as the teams collide this afternoon.
With extended minutes for fringe rotation players, Toronto has clinched the seventh-worst record in the NBA, but my Raptors vs. Spurs predictions expect the visitors’ young guns to be competitive in this final regular season outing.
My NBA picks and betting angles dig into this April 13 matchup.

My Raptors pick: Raptors +5.5 (-110 at PointsBet Canada)
My analysis
After a miserable start to the season, it was tough to imagine the Toronto Raptors reaching the 20-win mark, never mind entering the last game of the season with a 30-51 record, but the Raptors deserve a ton of credit for continuing to play hard, and there’s now a nice platform to build on next year.
With Scottie Barnes set to start this afternoon, I’m picking Toronto to keep the score close and gain a measure of payback against the San Antonio Spurs after being blown out by Stephon Castle & Co. at Scotiabank Arena last month.
The Raptors have repeatedly delivered for bettors against the spread this season, with a 48-32-1 ATS mark that’s tied with the Cavaliers and trails only the Thunder, and I’m grabbing the points this afternoon.
San Antonio will pose a threat, even without Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox, and stunned the Warriors earlier this week, but we should see a slightly different vibe for Toronto without the need to be scoreboard watching.
The trio of Jamal Shead, Jonathan Mogbo, and Jamison Battle will be key for Toronto as they put the finishing touches on strong rookie years, while Ochai Agbaji knocked down six of his seven 3-pointers against the Mavericks on Friday.
It’s going to be a short rotation for the Raptors, but it’s usually a positive when veteran Garrett Temple is pressed into action, and I see the young, athletic group around him rising to the challenge.
Raptors vs Spurs same-game parlay
The Under feels like one of the safer plays on the board, with Toronto managing just 89 points against the Spurs last month. The Raptors have hit the first-half Under in 44 of their last 73 contests, and they’ve scored 105 points or fewer in three of their past five games.
If Barnes logs limited minutes in an outing that gets him to the 65-game threshold, the visitors’ offense could dry up, and it’s fair to wonder how many minutes Chris Paul will play in a meaningless Game 82. A 231.5 O/U line just feels too high.
However, I see Toronto scoring freely early, so I’m taking the Over on the Raptors’ first-half team total at 55.5. That’s partly a wager on Jonathan Mogbo’s strong recent play. He’s going to see big minutes given the visitors’ thin frontcourt depth and he finished with a triple-double in the win over the Hornets on Wednesday.
There are sure to be scoring droughts for Toronto, as we saw last time out against the Mavs, but a 64-point second half on Friday showed the upside.
