It’s been a whirlwind of a week in the NBA with dozens of trades flying around ahead of Thursday’s deadline, but one thing remains constant — the Cleveland Cavaliers are a very good team.
Although it's not clear if deadline addition De’Andre Hunter will suit up for Cleveland when they face the Washington Wizards, my Cavaliers vs. Wizards predictions break down why the best team in the East will cruise to a comfortable win tonight.
Read why I expect Cleveland to run up the score in my NBA picks for Friday, February 7.
Cavaliers vs Wizards prediction
My best bet
Cavaliers team total Over 127.5 (-115 at bet365)
My analysis
The Cleveland Cavaliers made a splash ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline as they acquired De’Andre Hunter from the Hawks, adding to what was already a virtually unstoppable offense.
Cleveland owns the second-best attack in the NBA this season at 122.2 points per game, led by their dynamic duo of Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland — and both guards have turned up the heat in recent weeks.
Mitchell put up 31 against the Celtics on Tuesday and has recorded 30+ points in six of his last 10 games. Meanwhile, Garland has dropped 25+ points in six of his last eight starts.
That’s helped Cleveland average 126 ppg over its last five contests, a stretch that includes the Cavs putting up 126 points against a strong Heat defense last Wednesday.
The rebuilding Washington Wizards made several swaps at the deadline, including trading away key rebounders Kyle Kuzma and Jonas Valanciunas. The Wizards enter tonight ranked dead-last in points against per game (121.3) and I don’t see them containing a deep Cavaliers offense.
Cavaliers vs Wizards same-game parlay
I’m keeping it simple as I look for Mitchell and Garland to have another productive night against a lowly Wizards defense.
Mitchell has averaged 24.2 ppg since the calendar flipped to 2025, and the star guard should get a boost playing against the worst defense in the NBA.
Garland has actually slightly outscored his teammate at 24.4 ppg over that span, logging 20+ points in 12 of his last 14 contests.
