Two teams with ambitions of making deep playoff runs will face off on Monday night as the New York Knicks host the Memphis Grizzlies at Madison Square Garden.

These teams aren’t shy about putting up points, and I’ll be taking the Over with my Grizzlies vs. Knicks predictions.

Keep reading as I break down why in my free NBA picks for Monday, January 27.

My best bet

My analysis
Fans of high-scoring basketball will get a treat in New York tonight, as two of the top offenses in the NBA will be on display in this matchup. The New York Knicks rank second in the league in offensive rating (119.3), with the Memphis Grizzlies not far behind in fifth (117.9).

That’s underselling how much Memphis can score, however. The Grizzlies play at the fastest pace in the NBA, which has led them to average a blistering 123.7 ppg this year, more than even the vaunted Cleveland Cavaliers offense (122.0 ppg).

Impressively, the Grizzlies have been able to keep up the scoring barrage even when they’ve suffered some injuries, such as those to Ja Morant (20.7 ppg). The key has been the outstanding depth in Memphis, which has 12 players who have both played at least 18 games and are averaging more than seven points per game – an incredible level of balance over such a deep roster.

Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. (22.9 ppg) are the stars of the offense, but Desmond Bane (17.7 ppg) and Santi Aldama (12.7 ppg) have also emerged as key contributors. Rookie center Zach Edey (9.6 ppg) is already leading the team in rebounding and has become a more significant factor on offense as of late, scoring 19 points against the Utah Jazz on Saturday in his second straight double-digit performance.

The Knicks don’t boast that same kind of depth, but they have no trouble finding big scorers to get buckets in key moments. Both Jalen Brunson (25.9 ppg) and Karl-Anthony Towns (24.9 ppg) are elite scorers who have found success coexisting in the same offense, while Mikal Bridges (18.1 ppg) and OG Anunoby (16.3 ppg) are more than capable of taking over individual games. Point guard Josh Hart (14.1 ppg) rounds out a starting five that does almost all the scoring for this New York team.

These teams have both trended to the Over this season, and recent results haven’t changed my perspective. The Knicks are coming off a 143-point performance against the Sacramento Kings, and the Grizzlies have hit the Over in six of their last eight games. I see those trends continuing tonight, so I’m taking the Over.

Grizzlies vs Knicks same-game parlay

Over 241.5

Grizzlies +3.5

Jaren Jackson Jr. 20+ points

30% boost available

Along with predicting lots of scoring tonight, I also like the Grizzlies when it comes to my same-game parlay. Memphis has been on a roll as of late, winning six straight games and covering five of them. The Grizzlies have also covered each of the last three times they were a slight underdog, and I like them with the points tonight.

I’m also going to take Jaren Jackson Jr. to get to at least 20 points in this game. With the scoring likely going above 120+ on both sides, there will be plenty of opportunities for multiple players to put up big numbers, and Jackson is the best positioned of all. He has scored at least 22 points in each of his last four games and is averaging 24.8 ppg this month, making him an easy pick to keep up that run against the Knicks tonight.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
