My analysis
Charlotte Hornets PG LaMelo Ball is playing at an extremely high level through 13 games, averaging 29.7 points, 6.7 assists, and 5.0 rebounds on 36.1% shooting from 3-point land. If LaMelo keeps it up, he could even find himself in the MVP conversation.
The guard is especially on a heater lately. He’s hit the Over in points in four of the last five games, posting 30+ in those four contests. Ball dropped 31 in 35 minutes against the perfect Cleveland Cavaliers on November 17 and erupted for 35 points against the Orlando Magic last week.
The 23-year-old has a mind-boggling 37.8% usage rate, the highest on the Hornets by a mile. The rock is always in Ball’s hands. The Brooklyn Nets also have one of the worst defensive ratings in the Association, sitting 26th.
I’m expecting another impressive performance from LaMelo tonight in NYC against a team that isn't equipped to keep him in check.

Dennis Schroder is having a respectable campaign as one of the Nets' primary ball-handlers, averaging 18.1 points, 6.1 assists, and 2.9 rebounds. He’s also shooting 42.6% from downtown.
Alongside Cam Thomas, Schroder is one of Brooklyn’s top scorers and playmakers. However, he’s not scoring at a high rate lately. The German has hit the Under in points in four consecutive appearances and dropped a mere eight against the Knicks on Saturday.
On top of that, Schroder struggled vs. Charlotte in 2023-24, averaging just 12 points in four appearances. Whether the Hornets defend him well or it’s just an off night, Schroder won’t score much here.
Brooklyn is 6-4 in its last 10 against Charlotte, winning two of the last three at home. The Hornets are also a brutal 1-5 on the road, while the Nets own a 3-3 record at the Barclays Center. One could say Brooklyn is on a three-game losing skid therefore it’s a reason to bet against them, but this squad gets to return home, which could also provide a boost.
I’m more looking at how poorly the Hornets play away from the Spectrum Center. Those three consecutive losses for the Nets, meanwhile, came against the Celtics and the Knicks (twice). A weaker opponent will result in a victory for Brooklyn.
