My analysis
Perhaps Draymond Green wasn’t just blowing smoke when he told the TNT panel that the Golden State Warriors were championship material after picking up Jimmy Butler in a trade with the Heat. Golden State is coming off a 126-102 whipping of the Mavericks, giving the Dubs their third straight win.
The defense has been impressive, allowing 111 points or fewer in all six games, but the biggest surprise is Butler’s presence has re-ignited the Warriors’ offense. They're averaging 121.2 points per game since Jimmy Buckets hit the floor. This is despite shooting 46.3% from the field and just 33.7% from downtown.
That’s because the Warriors are hammering teams on the margins, ranking first in the NBA in points off turnovers — nearly five points clear of everyone at 29.3 per contest. They’re also tied for first in second-chance points (18.3), and their 52 points per game in the paint is nearly eight points better than their usual 45.4, which ranks 24th.
The Charlotte Hornets, meanwhile, are staggering through a mammoth nine-game road trip, which bookends all-star weekend. Save for a stunning win over the Lakers out of the All-Star break, Charlotte has lost six of seven and losing by double digits in three straight, including Monday night’s 130-88 thumping at the hands of the Kings.
That comes a game after getting clubbed by 53 in Portland and stomped by 14 in Denver. The Hornets are one of the better cover teams in the league on the second night of consecutive games, going 7-3 against the spread.
However, the situation matters: the Hornets have been getting killed throughout this road trip, and the Warriors are surging, scoring at least 125 points in five of their last six games.
Golden State has won five of the last seven games against Charlotte overall, four of those wins coming by double digits. Look for the Dubs to keep the good times rolling and extend Charlotte’s misery.

The Hornets are dying offensively on this road trip. Monday’s dismantling in Sacramento was the fourth time Charlotte failed to top 90 points in the last six games.
