The Utah Jazz find themselves in the midst of a four-game losing skid and face a tough opponent tonight in the Memphis Grizzlies, who look to push their win streak to six.
Despite Utah’s struggles, Walker Kessler has been a beast for the Jazz in January, averaging nearly 14 points and 13 rebounds per game.
I’ll explain how Kessler figures into my best bet in my Jazz vs. Grizzlies predictions and NBA picks for Saturday, January 25.
Jazz vs Grizzlies prediction
My best bet
Walker Kessler Over 23.5 points, assists, and rebounds (-115 at bet365)
My analysis
The Utah Jazz suffered their fourth straight defeat on Wednesday in a 123-114 loss to the Thunder highlighted by a 54-point outburst by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, but Walker Kessler quietly put up another solid performance for his team.
The center recorded 17 points to go along with a game-high 15 rebounds, building off a strong January where he’s averaging 13.7 points and 12.8 boards per contest.
Kessler has seen a slight uptick in his shooting frequency this month as he’s averaging 7.7 field goal attempts per game compared to just 6.3 in December, but he’s also been extraordinarily efficient from the field, converting on 76.8% of his shots.
The 7-footer has been even more dominant on the glass, collecting 13+ boards in four of his last five games and six of his last eight, so his points and rebounds alone could get him to 24+ tonight.
But for good measure, Kessler has notched multiple assists in 10 of his last 19 games, including a season high five dimes back on New Year’s day against the New York Knicks.
Jazz vs Grizzlies same-game parlay
The Memphis Grizzlies have plenty of offensive weapons to choose from but Desmond Bane has arguably been the most consistent down the stretch. The shooting guard has dropped 20+ points in seven straight games and 11 of his last 12 and should be a safe bet to reach the mark against a Jazz team that doesn’t play much defense.
The Jazz and Grizzlies both rank in the bottom eight in terms of points against per game, while Memphis tops the NBA with 123.6 points per contest. The Over is also 5-0 in Utah’s last five and 6-1 in Memphis’ last seven games.
