The San Antonio Spurs are in “next man up” mode after a wave of injuries, but there’s no sign of any letdown heading into tonight’s contest against the shaky Utah Jazz.

Utah escaped with a 111-110 win in the teams’ last meeting, but my Jazz vs. Spurs predictions point to some payback here for a San Antonio team that’s riding high after stunning the Oklahoma City Thunder this week.

Read on for my top NBA picks and betting angles for this November 21 matchup.

Jazz vs Spurs prediction

My best bet
Spurs -2.5 (-110 at bet365)

My analysis
It says a lot about the Utah Jazz’s struggles that the San Antonio Spurs are favored tonight despite missing Victor Wembanyama, Devin Vassell, and Jeremy Sochan. But it’s easy to see why.

The Spurs are 6-3 at Frost Bank Center, they just toppled the Thunder, and interim head coach Mitch Johnson is doing a terrific job filling in for Gregg Popovich.

Of course, it helps that Chris Paul is rolling back the years as San Antonio’s on-court leader. Paul is listed as probable after spraining his thumb against OKC. As long as he’s out there, I like the Spurs to climb up to .500 tonight.

Though San Antonio’s injury list is alarming and there’s no way to replace the Wemby effect, it’s creating opportunities for others to step up. Keldon Johnson poured in 22 points on Tuesday, Harrison Barnes had a season-high 20 points, and Stephon Castle is making a name for himself (more on him later).

The hosts’ depth to handle the Lauri Markkanen matchup gets challenging if Zach Collins is ruled out, but I’d still have trouble trusting a 3-11 Jazz team that’s lost three in a row with a 2-6 record on the road. A high lottery pick ahead of a loaded draft is seemingly the biggest target for the visitors.

Plus, Utah has its own injury concerns with Walker Kessler still out and Jordan Clarkson dealing with a foot issue. I’m sticking with the Spurs’ homecourt edge and picking the hosts to do just enough to cover this small spread.

Jazz vs Spurs same-game parlay

Spurs -2.5

Stephon Castle Over 4.5 assists

Keyonte George Under 14.5 points

With Paul as a mentor, Castle is making big strides in his rookie year, and he’s thrived in a bigger role over the past six games despite a seven-turnover effort against the Thunder. The Spurs are clearly all-in on Castle’s development this season and they’re going to live with the mistakes.

Castle should have the ball in his hands a lot again tonight, so I’m grabbing the Over on his assists prop. He’s had five or more dimes in five of his last seven outings, setting the stage for similar production here, especially if CP3 is limited.

I’m also fading the Keyonte George points prop. George is still finding his way on this somewhat confusing Utah roster, and his numbers have predictably fluctuated as a result.

He dropped in 18 points against the Lakers on Tuesday, but the second-year guard has scored 14 points or fewer in four of his past six contests. With Markkanen, John Collins, and Collin Sexton all capable bucket-getters, there’s potential for George to get squeezed out.

San Antonio has shown plenty of defensive grit this year, and George missed eight of his nine 3-pointers in the teams’ first meeting of the season.

Jazz vs Spurs spread and Over/Under analysis

  • Though the Jazz have won four of the past six matchups between these teams, they enter as slight underdogs, largely due to the Spurs’ impressive home record this season.
  • Utah has only covered the 1H spread in 34 of its last 83 contests.
  • San Antonio has served up consecutive Unders and ranks seventh in the NBA with just 109.6 points allowed per game.
  • The Over is 5-5 for the Jazz this year, but they’ve allowed at least 113 points in each of their last five outings.
