The doom and gloom has returned for the New Orleans Pelicans with a 10-game losing streak, and there’s no light at the end of the tunnel with another matchup against the Sacramento Kings on deck tonight.
A free-scoring Sacramento team edged last night’s meeting, and my Kings vs. Pelicans predictions signal more of the same here, led by the visitors’ veteran bucket-getter DeMar DeRozan.
Check out my NBA picks and betting nuggets for this February 13 showdown.
Kings vs Pelicans prediction
My best bet
DeMar DeRozan Over 24.5 points + assists (-115 at bet365)
My analysis
If you thought the Sacramento Kings and New Orleans Pelicans played limited defense at the best of times, it’s fair to wonder about the effort levels tonight with the All-Star break in touching distance.
That should put the offenses in pole position here at Smoothie King Center as these teams square off for the second time in two nights, and I’m picking DeMar DeRozan to be one of the standout performers.
DeRozan is averaging 24 ppg so far in February to go with four dimes per game, and that points to the Over on this combo prop with a generous 24.5 O/U line.
He finished with 24 points and six assists in yesterday’s clash, shooting better than 50% from the field for the fifth time in his last six contests. Even as a reluctant 3-point shooter, he’s gone 7-for-12 from beyond the arc in his past two games.
The De’Aaron Fox trade opened up more opportunities for DeRozan to orchestrate the Sacramento offense, but he’s equally crafty playing off the ball and finishing passes from Malik Monk, Zach LaVine, and Domantas Sabonis.
The Pelicans are allowing the fourth-most points per game in the NBA this season, and there just aren’t enough plus defenders for Willie Green to call on.
DeRozan is a mid-range maestro and an underrated playmaker, and this feels like an ideal matchup for the veteran to flash those skills.
Kings vs Pelicans same-game parlay
With New Orleans short on difference-makers, I’m laying the points with the Kings in this spot. There are always question marks around Zion Williamson on the second night of a back-to-back set, and Sacramento has a clear edge if this turns into a track meet.
The Kings have won the last three meetings between these teams, and I’m not ready to trust a Pelicans roster that’s slipped back into losing ways. New Orleans is just 2-7-1 ATS in its past 10 contests.
The hosts are heavily reliant on CJ McCollum and Trey Murphy III for perimeter scoring, and I’m buying into the shot volume available to Murphy here.
He had an off-night from downtown in yesterday’s game, but he’s still shooting 49% on 3-pointers so far in February. He’s knocked down at least three triples in five of his last seven outings.
