Lakers vs Pistons prediction

My best bet
Lakers -6.5 (-110 at bet365)

My analysis
The Los Angeles Lakers are off to a respectable 4-2 start to begin the 2024-25 campaign. Offensively, L.A. is producing the goods, averaging the sixth-most points per game in the Association. While JJ Redick is still trying to instill his defensive mindset in this team, they’re showing a lot of promise so far.

The Detroit Pistons also happen to be a team the Lakers have owned for over three years now. Dating back to February of 2021, the Purple and Gold have won seven in a row against Detroit. Last season, L.A. won both meetings against the Pistons, outscoring them by 40 points across the two victories.

The Lakers have covered the spread in four straight matchups as well. The two wins in 2022-23 came by seven points apiece. L.A. is beating teams by an average of six points this season, but given their past success against Detroit, I believe they can cover for a fifth consecutive clash with one of the worst teams in the league.

If you need more evidence, the Pistons are losing by an average of 10.4 points and just fell to the Knicks by 20 points on Friday on home court before beating the Nets on Sunday. Detroit hasn’t won at Little Caesars Arena yet.

Lakers vs Pistons same-game parlay (SGP)

Lakers -6.5

Over 227

The Lakers are putting up 118.3 points per game, while Detroit is scoring just 104.8 per night. However, this matchup has been very high-scoring in recent seasons. The last four comfortably hit the Over. In fact, the Under has cashed only once in the previous seven meetings dating back to 2021.

The common trend between L.A. and Detroit is either the Lakers score a lot of points and the Pistons don’t, or they both erupt offensively, and there’s minimal defense played. As previously mentioned, neither club is playing well defensively, while the Lake Show is putting up points.

Anthony Davis is expected to play despite a hip issue and has been balling out, scoring 30+ points in four of the six games in ‘24-25. His presence will be important in the Over being hit here, whether it’s a close contest or a lopsided one.
