Mavericks vs 76ers Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game

The Philadelphia 76ers have been finding their groove lately without Joel Embiid and with the Dallas Mavericks in a vulnerable spot following the trade of Luka Doncic, the Sixers hope to keep their flow to take advantage of their opponent's shakeup.

The Dallas Mavericks will look to get their first win in the post-Luka Doncic era as they visit the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday night.

Philadelphia has been getting the job done for bettors as of late, especially at home, and I’m taking them to cover again tonight in my Mavericks vs. 76ers predictions below.

Keep reading to dig into the full analysis of tonight’s game in my free NBA picks for Tuesday, February 4.

Mavericks vs 76ers prediction

My best bet
76ers -3.5 (-110 at bet365)

My analysis
In the near future, the Dallas Mavericks will be a better basketball team. That’s not a long-term evaluation; it’s simply the reality of getting a healthy Anthony Davis while losing an injured Luka Doncic who wasn’t on the court at the time of the trade.

But we’re not at that point yet. Davis remains out with an abdominal strain, and while Dallas will have Max Christie available to play, this team looked like an absolute mess in its first game following the trade. On Sunday, the Cleveland Cavaliers blew out the Mavericks 144-101, though that was likely the bottom point for Dallas this year – Kyrie Irving (24.3 ppg) was also out in that one, and he’ll at least be back tonight.

But even with Irving in the lineup, Dallas was no better than mediocre, trading wins and losses unpredictably against teams far better and far worse than them. That includes a 15-point loss to the Detroit Pistons on Friday, a game in which Irving scored 28 points.

Conversely, the Philadelphia 76ers have been playing some solid basketball over the past two weeks, even without Joel Embiid in the lineup. Embiid is listed as questionable again tonight, but if he plays, that’s nothing but upside for Philadelphia.

If he doesn’t play, I’m still not concerned about the current 76ers lineup. Tyrese Maxey (27.7 ppg) has been pacing the Philadelphia offense, which has averaged 120 ppg over the last six games. In that span, the Sixers have gone 4-2, and have covered in all six outings. The only two losses were single-digit defeats to two of the best teams in the NBA, the Boston Celtics and the Denver Nuggets.

The Mavericks front office is preaching that defense wins championships as a justification for the Doncic trade. Perhaps they’ll prove that there’s something to that mantra, but that will only be the case after we see them with a healthy Davis on the court. For now, they remain undermanned and unlikely to contend with anyone who can score the way the Sixers have been doing in recent games.

With Dallas still reeling from its stunning trade with the Los Angeles Lakers, this is setting up as another potential blowout loss for the Mavericks. I’m taking the 76ers to cover at home.

Mavericks vs 76ers same-game parlay

76ers -3.5

Over 226.5

Tyrese Maxey Over 29.5 points

Along with liking the Sixers tonight, I’m also high on the Over, which looks like a good second straight bet as well as a great added wager to throw into a same-game parlay. The Over has gone 6-1 in the Mavericks’ last seven games, and is also 6-2 in Philadelphia’s last eight contests. With both teams regularly playing to totals of 230 or more, the Over is a solid bet.

I’ll also take Tyrese Maxey to hit the Over on his scoring total of 28.5 points. Maxey is on a tear, scoring at least 29 points in each of his last six games, and hitting at least 28 points in every single game since Jan. 6. I don’t expect Embiid to be in the lineup tonight – and he may be limited even if he does get some time on the court – so I love Maxey to continue his scoring surge.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
