My analysis
Since the start of the new year, the Indiana Pacers have gone 12-2 straight up and 10-4 against the spread. Over that span, they are fifth in the NBA in offensive rating (119.7 points per 100 possessions).
Meanwhile, the Portland Trail Blazers are 8-1 SU and 9-0 ATS in their last nine games. They are second in the league in defensive rating (106.2) over that span while sitting just 28th in pace.
Portland has really tightened up on defense since inserting Deni Avdija into the starting lineup for Shaedon Sharpe. With Avdija, Toumani Camara, and Jerami Grant, the Blazers now have three lengthy and switchable starters that have given fits for opposing attacks.
With Sharpe as a starter, the Blazers were dead last in the NBA in fastbreak points per game allowed (19.3). However, since moving him to the bench, they've allowed a league-low 8.8 ppg on the fastbreak.
The Blazers should be able to slow down the Pacers in transition, especially since Indiana could have tired legs from playing in Utah last night.
