The Pelicans own one of the worst records in the Association this season, but they’ll look for a note of positivity tonight against a team they beat in both matchups a season ago. The 76ers are fresh off a win over the Washington Wizards and will look for a second straight win with Joel Embiid on the sidelines.
My Pelicans vs. 76ers predictions expect the recently-returned Zion Williamson to shine on offense. Read my NBA picks to see why you should take the Over on Williamson’s modest point total.
Pelicans vs 76ers prediction
My best bet
Zion Williamson Over 22.5 points (-115 at bet365)
My analysis
Zion Williamson returned following a multi-month absence and finished with 22 points on Tuesday. He sat out on Wednesday for injury maintenance, but he’s back in action tonight where he’s in prime position to cruise past this line.
Williamson has only appeared in seven games this season, but he leads the team in points per game at 22.6. Second-leading scorer Brandon Ingram (22.2) and fourth-leading scorer Trey Murphy III (20.7) will be sidelined, and Dejounte Murray (16.7) is questionable. Someone has got to step up on offense, and I’m counting on Williamson leading the charge.
The Philadelphia 76ers will be without Joel Embiid and Andre Drummond, leaving the team thin at center. KJ Martin is also out, which means Philly’s frontcourt rotation is depleted. The Sixers have allowed the 14th-most paint points per game this season, making this a favorable matchup for Williamson.
Williamson has played five games against the 76ers in his career, and he’s scored at least 23 in all of them. He’s averaged 31 points across those five games, including 33 and 23 in two games played without Embiid.
Increased opportunity, a favorable matchup and a depressed point total make this an enticing prop. Embiid has scored at least 23 points in 126 of 191 career games, good for 65.9%, so we’re getting phenomenal value with -115 odds.
Pelicans vs 76ers same-game parlay
Zion Williamson Over 22.5 points
Guerschon Yabusele Over 6.5 rebounds
Paul George Over 11.5 rebounds + assists
Joel Embiid and Andre Drummond will be sidelined tonight, which means Guerschon Yabusele should earn another start. Yabusele has averaged 6.6 rebounds in 14 starts compared to 4.5 rebounds in 21 games off the bench. He’s hit the Over on this line in eight of 16 games at home this season and averaged 6.0 boards at home compared to 4.8 on the road. New Orleans has allowed the fourth-most opponent rebounds, and Philly’s starting center should have no problem cashing the Over on a modest rebound total.
George has racked up rebounds and assists at a much higher rate at home than on the road this season. He’s averaging 12.8 at home and just 9.1 on the road, and he’s hit the Over on this line in six of seven at Wells Fargo Center. In addition to allowing the fifth-most rebounds, New Orleans has allowed the sixth-most opponent assists.
