Heir apparent
The Kings drafted Davion Mitchell with the ninth overall pick in last summer's NBA Draft, but the rookie was brought along slowly in Sacramento behind De'Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton. After Haliburton was traded for Domantas Sabonis, Mitchell saw his role in the backcourt grow, and now with Fox and Sabonis sidelined with injuries he has emerged as the No. 1 scoring option.
Mitchell racked up 28 points and nine assists against Phoenix on Sunday and followed up on that performance with 25 points and seven dimes versus Indiana on Wednesday.
Tonight, Mitchell and the Kings face off against an Orlando Magic team that is near the bottom of the league standings, surrendering 111.9 points per game. The Magic have been particularly poor at defending against opposing point guards, allowing 22.7 points a game on 44.3 FG% to the position.
We're riding the red-hot rookie and taking Over 25.5 on his points and assists total.
Pick: Mitchell Over 25.5 points + assists (-115)
Darius the Great
The Chicago Bulls have dropped eight of their last nine road games as they head to Cleveland to face off against the Cavaliers.
The Bulls recently got back Alex Caruso which helps their perimeter defense, but they are still struggling in that area and have surrendered at least 125 points in four of their last five games. During that span, they gave up 30 points to Devonte Graham, 37 to Donovan Mitchell, 27 to Jrue Holiday, and 28 to Devin Booker.
That's bad news with the Bulls set to face high-scoring Cavs guard Darius Garland. Garland is coming off a poor shooting night against Toronto on Thursday but is still averaging 26.1 points a night over his last 15 games. The Over/Under on Garland's points total is set at 23.5, a number he has surpassed in 12 of his last 15 games.
Pick: Over 23.5 points (-140)
Durant dishing
Kevin Durant has been filling up the hoop lately, scoring at least 35 points in three-straight games. But his playmaking ability might not be getting the attention it deserves, and his assists numbers have understandably surged when he gets to play alongside another elite scorer in Kyrie Irving.
KD is coming off back-to-back games with eight assists. He's now dropped at least seven dimes in eight of his last nine contests, averaging 7.8 assists a game over that span.
Although the Nets are taking on one of the league's top defensive teams in the Heat tonight, Miami is allowed at least 111 points in three-straight contests. We're expecting Durant to share the rock tonight and hit the Over 6.5 on his assists total.
Pick: Durant Over 6.5 assists (+120)
