Spurs vs Bulls Prediction, Picks, & Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game

The Bulls are playing an improved defense and match up well against the visiting Spurs, who haven't particularly played well on the road. We're eyeing a minor upset by backing the home underdogs to win outright.

Get set for an exciting NBA matchup when the San Antonio Spurs visit the Chicago Bulls at the United Center tonight.

Chicago has defended better recently, and my Spurs vs. Bulls predictions anticipate that improved defense will play a key role in this game.

Read on as I explain my NBA picks for Monday, January 6.

My analysis

The San Antonio Spurs hit the road for the first of a five-game road trip, and playing their third game in five nights is less than optimal.

That’s because they meet a Chicago Bulls squad playing just its third game in the last seven days, and in a barn, they just upset the New York Knicks.

One of Chicago’s main problems has been defense. The Bulls allow the second-most points in the Association (121) but have seemingly hunkered down on that end of the floor of late.

The Bulls have allowed fewer than 121 points in three of their last four games, which is good news because their scoring has suffered recently. The better defense will come in handy against a Spurs group that scores nearly 111 points per game.

The Spurs come into town hoping to get its five-game road trip off to a good start. They haven’t fared well on the road (6-9) and have dropped three of their last five away tilts.

I like the home dog Bulls to win straight up.

Chicago is playing with confidence. Lonzo Ball's 25-minute appearance off the bench gives the Bulls the playmaker they need while improving their second team on both ends of the floor.

San Antonio’s tired legs will get abused further, running up and down with the much faster Bulls. The Spurs don’t have much depth, and I expect Chicago to push the pace, defend the three, and beat San Antonio outright.

Spurs vs Bulls same-game parlay

Bulls moneyline

Josh Giddey 5+ assists

Chris Paul Under 9.5 points

Josh Giddey has been a welcome addition to Chicago, leading the team in dimes (5.9), dropping 5+ in seven of his last eight.

The faster pace will fuel Giddey's assist total, but Spurs guard Chris Paul isn’t always giddy about the faster pace. Paul has fallen short of scoring 10 points in each of his past five clashes.

Spurs vs Bulls spread and Over/Under analysis

  • The Spurs are 8-1-0 ATS in their last nine, which is likely why the spread ballooned in their favor.
  • The Bulls are 3-2-0 ATS in their last five games, but Chicago’s 6-9 home record could explain why it is the home underdog.
  • The Over is 5-0 in the Spurs' last five games following a double-digit loss at home.
  • The Under is 6-0 in the Bulls' last six games, playing on 1 day's rest.
