The Toronto Raptors have been dealt a tough hand to start the season when it comes to injuries. Scottie Barnes, Immanuel Quickley, and several other key reserves have missed time.

But this is a scrappy team that never gives up, and my Raptors vs. Clippers predictions like Toronto’s chances to keep another game close.

Check out my favorite NBA picks for Saturday, November 9.

Raptors vs Clippers prediction

My Raptors pick
Raptors +6.5 (-110 at PointsBet Canada)

My analysis
The Toronto Raptors look like they're on the fast track to extinction when you consider all the injuries they've had to deal with this season.

That makes the job head coach Darko Rajakovic has done all the more impressive. Now, you might say, “How is a 2-7 record impressive,”? Well, let me tell you.

Toronto has bought into Rajakovic’s high-tempo offense predicated on getting out in transition and moving the basketball, and the early returns are promising. Toronto enters this game ranked 13th in offensive rating, third in assist rate, and sixth in pace.

Toronto is 7-2 against the spread, and I like it to improve on that tonight against the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Clippers are basically the exact opposite of the Raptors. They're a slow, methodical team that works in half-court offense. The results to this point have been mixed, with L.A. ranked 21st in offensive rating and 28th in pace.

Obviously, no Kawhi Leonard hurts, but this group is struggling to find consistent offense. Raptors fans love Norm Powell, but the Clippers probably weren’t expecting him to be their leading scorer at this point.

Los Angeles is also playing the second half of a back-to-back following a road win over the Sacramento Kings last night, so it may not even be in a position to take advantage of a soft Raptors defense.

Toronto +6.5 is too sweet to pass up.

Raptors vs Clippers same-game parlay

Raptors +6.5

RJ Barrett Over 22.5 points

Jakob Poeltl 10+ rebounds

With Scottie Barnes and Immanuel Quickley out, RJ Barrett has shouldered the load on offense for the Raptors. Barrett is averaging 25.7 points on 21.2 field goal attempts per game which includes a solid 35.7% from beyond the arc.

Quickley could suit up, but I don’t expect Barrett to start taking fewer shots considering the way he's played this season. Barrett should also have a solid matchup against a bit of an undersized Clippers team to eclipse this line for the fifth time in seven games

Jakob Poeltl is averaging 11.4 rebounds per game this season, and while the Clippers are solid rebounding themselves, the matchup with Ivica Zubac means lots of runs tonight for Big Jak.

Mix in some heavy legs for a Los Angeles team playing its second game in as many nights, and that could mean a few more bricks and more boards to collect for the big man.

When his dreams of becoming the next Steve Nash died, all Andrew “Taco” Caley wanted to do was write about sports, something he’s been doing at Covers for more than a decade. A Journalism School grad from Holland College in Charlottetown, PEI, Andrew previously worked at The Chronicle Herald and Star Metro, but knew in his heart that his future lay in sports. He began at Covers as a news editor and has now done everything under the sun when it comes to content. His work has been seen on TSN, Sportsnet, VSiN, and CBS.

These days Andrew’s betting expertise is focused on his favorite teams – the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Raptors. He’s also an avid college football fan and bettor. He can’t be friends with you if you don’t appreciate a Service Academy Under. You can also call him Covers’ Sixth Man, as he regularly steps up to guest host Before You Bet and our MLB and NCAAF release shows.

The sportsbook where he does the bulk of his betting is bet365 thanks to its numerous prop betting options and competitive odds. His best advice? Find the balance between the numbers and what you see on the playing field. Then find the best price using multiple books. And don’t ask him where the nickname Taco comes from. It’s not an interesting story. Seriously.
