The Toronto Raptors are fighters if nothing else, and they’ll be in another fight tonight when they play host to the Memphis Grizzlies as 10.5-point home underdogs.

My Grizzlies vs. Raptors predictions highlight the hot shooting of Ja'Kobe Walter for this matchup.

Raptors vs Grizzlies prediction

My Raptors pick
Ja'Kobe Walter Over 1.5 threes (+105 at PointsBet Canada)

My analysis
The Toronto Raptors are coming off a loss to the New York Knicks last night, but the Raptors never gave up, and it took some cold-blooded shots from Jalen Brunson to finally make the Dinos go extinct.

The Raps will have to put on their best effort as they host the red-hot Memphis Grizzlies in the second half of a back-to-back tonight without RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, and Jakob Poeltl.

Toronto will need to rely on some youngsters to pick up the scoring production with those key veterans on the sideline, and that has me looking at first-round pick Ja’Kobe Walter.

The former Baylor Bear is starting to get a longer look from this Raptors staff and was reinserted into the starting lineup against the Knicks. Walter took advantage of the opportunity with a very efficient 13 points on 5 of 7 shooting, including 3-for-4 from 3-point range.

In fact, Walter has now hit double-digit points in three consecutive games while shooting an impressive 46.2% from beyond the arc, and if there is one place you can attack the Grizz, it’s on the perimeter.

Memphis allows the fifth-most 3-point attempts per game in the NBA while ranking 22nd in opponent 3-point makes, surrendering 13.8 per contest.

Expect Walter to stay in the starting lineup with all the injuries the Raptors are dealing with, with opportunities to jack from deep.

Raptors vs Grizzlies same-game parlay

Ja'Kobe Walter Over 1.5 threes

Zach Edey Under 8.5 rebounds

Ja Morant Over 4.5 rebounds

The Raptors are a mediocre team on the glass — ranking 15th in rebounding rate and opponent rebounds per game — so there are going to be a few more rebounds up for grabs. I just don’t necessarily think it will be someone like Zach Edey grabbing them.

Edey is having a solid rookie campaign and will be playing in front of family at home, but with no Poeltl in the lineup, the Raptors could go small, forcing him off the court.

Edey is already averaging just 7.6 rebounds per game while playing just over 20 minutes and has a total of 8.5 for this matchup, so let’s take the Under.

But like I said, there will be boards up for grabs. So, why look further than Ja Morant? The Grizzlies star point guard averages 4.1 rebounds per game and can be as good a rebounder as anyone on the court when he wants to be.

Raptors vs Grizzlies spread and Over/Under analysis

  • The Raptors opened this matchup as eight-point home underdogs, but with the word they would be without three starters while playing the second half of a back-to-back, the money has pushed the spread even farther in the Grizzlies direction, now sitting at 10.5.
  • The Raptors have gone through spurts of being a great bet this season, but the Grizzlies have been one of the best bets all season long, going 33-17 ATS.
  • The total hit the board at a sky-high 241, but injuries and money have dropped that number to as low as 235.5.
  • The Raptors have been cashing Unders lately because of their improved defense, but they are an Over team at heart. They still struggle with better offensive teams (the Grizzlies qualify as that) and play at a high pace.

He began at Covers as a news editor and has now done everything under the sun when it comes to content. His work has been seen on TSN, Sportsnet, VSiN, and CBS.

These days Andrew’s betting expertise is focused on his favorite teams – the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Raptors. He’s also an avid college football fan and bettor. You can also call him Covers’ Sixth Man, as he regularly steps up to guest host Before You Bet and our MLB and NCAAF release shows.

The sportsbook where he does the bulk of his betting is bet365 thanks to its numerous prop betting options and competitive odds. His best advice? Find the balance between the numbers and what you see on the playing field. Then find the best price using multiple books. And don’t ask him where the nickname Taco comes from. It’s not an interesting story. Seriously.
