A nine-game losing streak feels like unchartered territory for Erik Spoelstra and the Miami Heat, but that’s where they find themselves heading into tonight’s clash with the Houston Rockets.
It couldn’t be a more different story for a surging Houston team that’s won eight in a row, and my Rockets vs Heat predictions call for the visitors’ relentless offense to spark the scoring here.
Check out my NBA picks and betting angles for this Friday, March 21 matchup set for an 8:00 p.m. tip.
Rockets vs Heat prediction
My best bet: Over 214.5 (-110 at bet365)
My analysis
Make no mistake, the Houston Rockets are proving the doubters wrong. There’s been no sustained stumble or wobble from Ime Udoka’s men — and they’ve got the inside track for the No.2 seed in the West.
While a friendly schedule has helped propel the Rockets on this current winning run, they’ve ruthlessly taken care of business with some lights-out offensive performances.
Houston has passed the 140-point mark twice in its last seven outings, and that feels like a launchpad for the Over tonight against the Miami Heat on a generous 214.5 O/U line.
The Rockets should have Amen Thompson back to boost their fast-paced attack, and the Over is always in play when the visitors rank second in the league in field-goal attempts per game. Even in Thompson’s absence, all five starters scored 15+ points in the midweek win over the Orlando Magic.
Though scoring has been a real chore for the Heat lately, they put up 113 points against the Detroit Pistons last time out after falling short of 100 points in their three prior contests.
This wager is largely about Houston’s offensive weapons, but I’m still counting on Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo to scrape together enough good looks to keep Miami afloat — and Andrew Wiggins’ possible return would give Spoelstra another much-needed option.
The Rockets have nailed the Over in four straight games, and I’m trusting Alperen Sengun, Jalen Green & Co. to stay hot at Kaseya Center tonight.
Rockets vs Heat same-game parlay
Fred VanVleet isn’t the glitziest name in this deep Houston rotation, but his presence continues to drive winning, and I see him going past the 12.5 O/U line for his points prop. VanVleet’s 3-point stroke still looks shaky, but that won’t stop him from firing away, and he’s jacked up 28 triples across his last three contests.
He dropped 16 points on the Magic on Wednesday and finished with 23 points against the Chicago Bulls last weekend — his highest points tally since January 22. The Miami backcourt has some exploitable holes, and VanVleet only has to drill a few 3-pointers to close in on the Over.
I backed Adebayo for a big playmaking role earlier this week and he delivered in a big way with eight dimes against Detroit to go with 30 points. I’m going back to the well here, even with his assists prop line climbing to 4.5.
With the Heat desperate to end this worrying slide, they could lean even more heavily on Bam’s vision as a passer, and his dribble handoffs will be crucial for getting Herro and Duncan Robinson going.

- With a 15-18 mark at Kaseya Center this season, the Heat enter as home underdogs against a Rockets team that’s 19-14 on the road.
- Miami has won nine straight against Houston, covering the spread in seven, but the visitors are 6-2 ATS on their current eight-game streak.
- The hosts are a dismal 29-39-1 ATS this year — and 1-6 ATS in their last seven games.
- The Under is 7-3 in the Heat’s last 10 games, but their past two outings have served up the Over — and they’ve allowed 116+ points in four of their last five contests.
