Mired in their first three-game losing skid of the season, the Houston Rockets will try to stop the streak on the second night of a back-to-back at Barclays Center vs. the Brooklyn Nets at 7:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday, February 4.

Brooklyn will be playing Houston in consecutive games after dumping them 110-98 on February 1 to win two straight for just the third time all season.

Our Rockets vs Nets predictions and NBA picks have Houston clamping down a Brooklyn side that has somehow managed to take five of the last six from them.

My analysis

It wasn’t how the Houston Rockets wanted to start their four-game road trip, blowing a double-digit lead to lose to the New York Knicks 124-118.

The Rockets’ usually sturdy defense was lit up for 46 fourth-quarter points, getting outscored by 17 in the frame.

Without veteran Fred VanVleet (ankle) and big man Alperen Sengun (calf), Houston failed to consistently deliver offense when it needed it most, shooting 11-for-25 in the fourth (44%), including 1-for-8 from 3-point range, while turning it over five times.

This little skid has dropped the Rockets to third in the West, with the Memphis Grizzlies leapfrogging them into second spot. Houston is now just two games up on the Denver Nuggets.

The good news is that they’re right back at it against a Brooklyn Nets team that, despite winning two straight, has just four wins total over its last 19 games.

The Nets have done it with defense over the last two games, going on the road and holding both Charlotte and Houston below 100 points — the first time all season that’s happened.

Brooklyn won that game despite not having Bojan Bogdanovic (foot), Ben Simmons (injury management), Cameron Johnson (ankle), Noah Clowney (ankle) and Cam Thomas (hamstring) in the lineup, and none will be available again this time around.

Scoring should be a challenge for the Nets without the Cams, their two leading scorers on the season, as they’re already putting up just 105.5 points per game. Only Orlando averages fewer points.

Houston’s bounce-back should come here, but picking the spread is a risk, as the Rockets are just 4-4-1 ATS on the second night of a back-to-back. Combine that with Brooklyn going 8-4-0 ATS with a rest advantage, and there’s a real pause.

I trust that Ume Udoka will stress getting back to defensive basics, especially against a team as offensively challenged as BK.

The Under has cashed in seven of the last eight meetings and fits the bill again tonight.

Rockets vs Nets same-game parlay

Under 209

Amen Thompson Under 18.5 points

D'Angelo Russell Over 2.5 threes

Once Amen Thompson figures out his jump shot, he’s going to be scary good. His athleticism is off the charts, as he lit the Knicks up for 25 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists.

However, he’s been hard-pressed to follow up a big scoring game with another. Just twice this season has he gone for 20+ in back-to-back games. The other six times he’s hit that total, he’s averaged just 10.2 points the following game.

D’Angelo Russell has found his range from downtown recently, going 3-for-8 from 3-point range vs. Houston last time.

D-Lo has hit at least three triples in five of his last eight games. Without Thomas or Johnson’s offense, look for Russell to seek out his shot against the Rockets.
