The Houston Rockets are showing signs of life this month and they’re NBA odds favorites on the road against the San Antonio Spurs tonight.

While the Rockets have faded out of the playoff picture after a strong start to the season they’re 4-1 so far in March, including Sunday’s 112-104 road win over the Sacramento Kings.

That stretch also featured a 114-101 victory over the Spurs, led by 45 points and 16 rebounds from the now-injured Alperen Sengun. San Antonio enters this latest matchup on the back of a 112-102 loss to the Golden State Warriors last night, dropping its record to 14-51.

Read on for my free NBA picks for a Texas showdown of Rockets vs. Spurs on Tuesday, March 12.

Rockets vs Spurs odds

Rockets vs Spurs predictions

It would have been a shame to see the Houston Rockets’ bounceback season end with a whimper, so their March revival has been a welcome sight. Sneaking into a play-in spot feels unlikely – they’re five games outside the No. 10 spot – but the past week has been encouraging for Houston.

Fred VanVleet has been a big factor in setting a new vibe for the Rockets this year with his veteran presence and championship experience. It’s his recent play that seems to have steadied the ship in H-Town, and that’s where I’m looking for my best bet tonight.

With Alperen Sengun out, VanVleet is going to soak up even more playmaking responsibilities. I love the Over on this assists prop here, especially with the slight plus odds.

“Steady Freddie” has tallied nine or more dimes in four of his five contests this month, and he had 10 assists against the San Antonio Spurs last week. He’s also logged 38 or more minutes in four of his last five outings.

That feels like a formula for a strong VanVleet stat line at Frost Bank Center, especially with the Spurs giving up 120 ppg this season. With Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks primed to load up on more shots, I see VanVleet leaning into a setup role.

My best bet: Fred VanVleet Over 8.5 assists (+106 at FanDuel)

Rockets vs Spurs same-game parlay

Fred VanVleet Over 8.5 assists

Dillon Brooks Over 12.5 points

Rockets -3

25% boost available

Brooks rarely needs encouragement to let it fly, even if his shot selection has improved a little since landing with the Rockets.

With the injuries to Sengun and Cam Whitmore leaving the visitors a little light on scoring tonight, I’m picking Brooks to gladly fill the void.

The Canadian’s scoring has dropped off in a big way since averaging almost 15 ppg in January and he’s been held to single-digit points in four of his last seven games. Yet the volume will be there for Brooks in this spot and I expect him to respond.

I’m also taking the Rockets to stay hot. They’ve got the rest advantage over the Spurs, who were in action last night, and they’ve won four of the past five meetings between the teams.

Despite statement wins over the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Warriors in the last two weeks, San Antonio is 3-7 in its past 10 games. I’m comfortable laying the points with Houston here.

Rockets vs Spurs spread and Over/Under analysis

Houston has been a reliable pick against the spread this season with a 35-28-1 ATS mark, and that’s surely a factor in the visitors being slight favorites on the road tonight.

The Rockets have an ugly 8-24 record away from Toyota Center but I’m preferring to focus on the recent road victories over the Kings and Suns. VanVleet & Co. seem to be trending in the right direction again, and they’re 7-3 ATS in their last 10 outings.

That’s enough to give Houston an edge against a San Antonio team that’s 7-22 at home and had a tight battle with Golden State last night. It will be worth watching how cautious the Spurs are with Victor Wembanyama in this back-to-back spot.

The Under has hit in six of the Rockets’ last nine contests, including the hard-fought victory over Sacramento over the weekend. Meanwhile, it’s also been a winner in five of the Spurs’ past eight games.

Keep in mind too that Houston is missing some of its scoring punch tonight and San Antonio has every reason to lighten the minutes load on Wemby and Devin Vassell, who’ve both dealt with injuries over the past week.

Rockets vs Spurs betting trend to know

Points could be at a premium tonight with the Rockets hitting the 1H Under in 47 of their last 79 contests. Find more NBA betting trends for Rockets vs. Spurs.
