The San Antonio Spurs will look to get the most out of their young guns to end the season, while the Los Angeles Clippers are gearing up for a playoff push when the two teams collide at Intuit Dome tonight.
My Spurs vs Clippers predictions expect Ivica Zubac to dominate in the paint in a comfortable Clippers win.
Read my NBA picks to see why I love Zubac’s combo prop and how I’m betting the spread and point total on Tuesday, April 8.
Spurs vs Clippers prediction
My best bet: Ivica Zubac Over 29.5 points + rebounds (-110 at bet365)
My analysis
Betting on a solid big man performance against the San Antonio Spurs' depleted frontcourt is a beautiful thing. That’s exactly what I’m doing tonight as Ivica Zubac and the Los Angeles Clippers host the Spurs at Intuit Dome.
The Spurs’ frontcourt hasn’t been the same since returning from the All-Star break. Victor Wembanyama is done for the year due to blood clots, and Zach Collins was traded to Chicago at the deadline. Defensive specialist Jeremy Sochan has been ruled out tonight, leaving Bismack Biyombo and Sandro Mamukelashvili to hold things down in the paint.
Over the last 15 games, the Spurs have allowed opposing centers to average 26.2 points and 15.8 rebounds, good for fourth-most points and fifth-most rebounds. San Antonio has allowed opposing big men to shoot 65.4% from the floor, which is the most generous mark in the Association in that span.
On the season, San Antonio has allowed the ninth-most paint points at 50.7, and that’s solid news for a traditional big who scores all of his points down low. Zubac is averaging 16.5 points and 12.5 boards this season, but he’s picked it up since the break, with averages of 19.4 points and 12.3 boards across 24 contests. Over his last 24, he’s hit the Over on this line 13 times, including six of his last 10 at home.
Zubac finished with a paltry five points and seven boards against the Spurs on New Year's Eve, but he logged just 22 minutes in a blowout loss. In his other two matchups with San Antonio, Zubac played a full allotment of minutes and posted lines of 21/22 and 17/13, clearing the Over both times.
This isn’t a scary matchup for Zubac, and I fully expect him to take advantage. Bet the Over on this combo line as he has his way with the Spurs’ shorthanded big man rotation.
Spurs vs Clippers same-game parlay
The Clippers have covered in six of their last eight, and the team is 44-33-1 ATS this season. Los Angeles is 27-12 ATS at home and 19-7 as the home favorite. This is a big spread, but the Clippers are 6-2 ATS when favored by at least 12 points.
San Antonio has covered in just 16 of 38 on the road and in 12 of 29 as the road underdog. Over the last seven games, the Clippers sport the best net rating in the NBA at 17.7, while the Spurs’ -10.5 net rating is 25th.
No team has a better defensive rating than the Clippers at 104.7 over the last seven games. The Spurs rank 25th in offensive rating at 108.7.
San Antonio has found ways to put up points thanks to strong showings from rookie Stephon Castle and veteran Harrison Barnes, who has been on one of his random hot streaks over the last week. That changes tonight, as the Spurs will have a tough time getting buckets against a seasoned Clippers team at home, who will be highly motivated to win and avoid falling to the Play-In Tournament.
