After landing a new sidekick for Victor Wembanyama, the San Antonio Spurs just sped up their timeline, and they’ll try to start a hot streak as they visit the Atlanta Hawks tonight at State Farm Arena.
All eyes will be on De’Aaron Fox as he makes his San Antonio debut here, and my Spurs vs. Hawks predictions see Wemby channeling all the buzz into a monster performance.

Spurs vs Hawks prediction
My best bet
Victor Wembanyama Over 23.5 points (-120 at bet365)
My analysis
The San Antonio Spurs’ middle-of-the-pack offense desperately needed a jolt, and the De'Aaron Fox trade promises to unlock the next level of the Victor Wembanyama experience.
That connection isn’t going to be deadly overnight, but I see Wemby feasting with extra space to operate, and I like the Over on this 23.5-point prop tonight against the wobbling Atlanta Hawks.
Even before adding Fox into the mix, Wembanyama has been on a tear. He dropped 27 points on the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday, with an efficient 10-for-20 shooting line, and he’s averaged 26 points across his last five outings.
He’s up to 24.6 PPG overall this season, and he’s shot 10-for-23 from 3-point range in his past three contests.
Wemby certainly took a liking to this fragile Atlanta defense in the teams’ prior matchup this season, exploding for 42 points in an overtime victory back in December, and I’m on the lookout for some early glimpses of the Wembanyama-Fox pick-and-roll threat.
With Fox and Chris Paul (questionable) serving up assists, Wembanyama couldn’t ask for a better situation to pump up his numbers, and the slumping Hawks should be the ideal opponent.
Atlanta is allowing 119 PPG this year, the third-worst mark in the NBA, and has given up at least 130 points in three straight contests. Clint Capela’s absence also leaves the hosts thin up front.
Despite San Antonio’s own recent struggles, I expect the visitors to flash their offensive weapons in this one, led by a Wemby scoring spree.
Spurs vs Hawks same-game parlay
This line was always going to have more juice once Fox was confirmed as active for the Spurs, but I still feel comfortable laying the points with a San Antonio roster that’s now got a nice blend of shooting and depth.
The Hawks are 22-28 ATS this season, and their wing rotation takes a massive hit without Bogdan Bogdanovic and Jalen Johnson. That also leaves a huge burden on Trae Young’s shoulders, and the Spurs’ rim protection needs no introduction.
Sure, San Antonio is only 7-13 on the road this year, but the visitors have covered the spread in three of their past four matchups against Atlanta.
I’m also fading the Onyeka Okongwu rebounds total here. Even if he’s not the primary defender on Wembanyama, the potential for foul trouble looms large, and he’s fallen short of double-digit boards in five of his last six games. In three of those, he hasn’t even grabbed eight rebounds.
On possessions where he’s matched up with Wemby, he could be dragged away from the basket, leaving other Hawks to clean the glass. This 10.5 line just feels too high.

- With Fox’s arrival, throw out most of the San Antonio trends — this offense is going to be turbo-charged with everything he brings to the table.
- It’s tough to trust a Hawks team that had lost eight in a row before a last-gasp victory in Detroit on Monday.
- Both teams have peppered the Over this season — it’s 29-19-2 for Atlanta this year and it’s 8-2 in San Antonio’s last 10 games.
- The Over is also 8-2 in the teams’ past 10 meetings, pushing the line up to a hefty 241.5 here.
