My analysis
It seems like Victor Wembanyama has taken a step into stardom right before our eyes over the past week, highlighted by a career-best 50-point performance against the Wizards on Wednesday night.
The San Antonio Spurs sophomore is averaging 34 points over his last four games and I’ll be looking for him to start off hot again tonight with Over 5.5 points in the first quarter.
Wembanyama has averaged exactly 5.5 points in the opening quarter this season, but that number has skyrocketed this week as the Spurs star has been dominating offensively. Wemby has averaged 8.3 first quarter points over his last four contests and notched Over 5.5 points in the opening frame in each of those outings.
The 7-foot-3 center has also seen a huge uptick in field goal attempts, averaging more than 25 attempts per game over his last three compared to just 15 in October.
The Dallas Mavericks have been solid defensively to start the season but are generally sluggish out of the gate. The Mavs allow 29.2 points per game in the first quarter, which is eighth-worst in the NBA.

Along with a hot start for Wemby, I like Spurs point guard Chris Paul to notch Over 8.5 assists. The 39-year-old vet is averaging 8.3 dimes per game but has tallied 11 assists in each of his last three games and nine or more in eight of his last 10.
I’ll round out my SGP by taking the Spurs to go against the spread at +9.5. The Mavericks opened as the 10.5-point favorite, but Luka Doncic (knee) is questionable, while P.J. Washington (knee) is also doubtful. Dallas has also dropped four straight games.
