My analysis
Losing Victor Wembanyama was always going to be tough, and the San Antonio Spurs have been finding out the hard way.
Despite coming out of the All-Star break with a win over the Suns, San Antonio has followed that win up with three straight losses, including falling short in consecutive games to the lowly Pelicans. It hasn’t helped that De’Aaron Fox put up two of the worst shooting performances of the season in those games, and it’s not going to get any easier against the Houston Rockets.
The Rockets currently sit in fifth place in the Western Conference with a 36-22 record, and they have been money on the defensive end of the floor. The Rockets enter this matchup ranked fourth in defensive rating, third in opponent effective field goal percentage, and fifth in scoring defense — allowing just 108.8 points per game.
I like their chances to lock down a San Antonio offense that ranks just 18th in effective field goal percentage. The Spurs scored just 96 and 103 points in back-to-back losses to the Pelicans, while the Rockets held them to 100 and 101 points in two early-season meetings.
