Suns vs Trail Blazers Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game

Even after beating the Suns on Saturday, the Trail Blazers are getting little respect from bettors. Kenny Ducey's NBA betting picks will go back to the well and grab Portland and the points.

The Portland Trail Blazers continue to dazzle, entering play on Monday with a chance for an eighth win in nine games.

After taking down the Phoenix Suns on Saturday, they’ll once again enter as underdogs here despite an uninspiring run from their opponents — and my Suns vs. Trail Blazers predictions will explain why this Portland defense has to be believed in.

Let’s dig into some NBA player props and hand out some NBA picks for Monday, February 3.

Suns vs Trail Blazers prediction

My best bet
Trail Blazers +5 (-110 at bet365)

My analysis
We continue to see a special level out of the Portland Trail Blazers, which has quietly brought their home record a game away from .500 with seven wins in their last eight tries overall. This defense sits third in the NBA over the last two weeks, and it was what led the Trail Blazers to a commanding victory over the Phoenix Suns just a couple of nights ago.

Even Phoenix, which has shot the ball very well in the last two weeks, fell victim to the second-best 3-point defense in the NBA over that timeframe with just 30.3% of its looks falling from downtown the other night. Its heavy mid-range focus seemed to have a decent shot at success considering it’s been the Trail Blazers’ lone weakness of late, but without anything falling at the rim or around the arc, the output was not there for the Suns despite good nights out of Kevin Durant and Devin Booker.

Meanwhile, the Trail Blazers' offense went to work on a Suns frontcourt defense that has weighed this team down in recent weeks — even with the addition of Nick Richards. Portland scored at will inside, whether it was Deandre Ayton, Jerami Grant, or Toumani Camara. Anfernee Simons will also ensure Portland gets plenty of shots up from deep.

This Suns team has simply been flat on both ends of the floor, floating around the middle of the league in the respective efficiency numbers over the last two weeks, and it’s hard to see anything getting better in this rematch considering Durant and Booker did all they could to power this offense and still Phoenix fell well short.

Portland’s defense is legitimately good, and we have to continue to back these trends even if the thought of a more seasoned and talented Suns team getting another crack at it so soon is a bit scary.

Suns vs Trail Blazers same-game parlay

Trail Blazers +5

Deandre Ayton Over 16.5 points

Deni Avdija Over 15.5 points

Phoenix has been mediocre at defending both the rim and the mid-range these last two weeks and over the course of the season, and it’s ranked in the Top 5 of shots allowed in the latter shooting zone over the past two weeks.

Ayton has gone for 21 or more points in four straight games now, and as a player who possesses an excellent floater, he should once again break down the defenses of a team which is thin up front.

Along the same lines, this number on Dan Avdija has come down once again after a second straight flop of an outing. But I believe in his game, which is predicated upon getting to the rim and devastating from outside.

With the Suns looking shaky against the 3-ball and Portland due for some shooting variance, I think Avdija should cash a couple from outside and pick up where he left off on Monday, when he went 3-for-7 from the floor and 3-for-3 from the line. He’s been a machine in getting to the charity stripe, and prior to these last two games he strung together three straight 25-point outings.
