Trail Blazers vs Kings Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game

As both teams enter this matchup eager to put an end to their respective losing streaks, it's the Portland Trail Blazers who could have the edge on the road over the Sacramento Kings, who have yet to find solutions to their mounting issues.

The Sacramento Kings may have a stronger record than the Portland Trail Blazers this season, but that doesn’t mean they enter Thursday’s game as the stronger side.

My Trail Blazers vs. Kings predictions will center around Portland's excellent play on offense in wake of a big injury and highlight the glaring issues defensively for Sacramento.

Let’s dig into some NBA player props and hand out some NBA picks on Thursday, March 27.

Trail Blazers vs Kings prediction

My best bet: Trail Blazers +6 (-110 at bet365)

My analysis
The Portland Trail Blazers have begun to turn things around despite the continued absence of Deandre Ayton, ranking 12th on the offensive end in the last two weeks. In a rather ironic twist, it’s been the rim where this team has found the most success.

The Trail Blazers enter as the third-best team in the league when it comes to scoring inside, and while it’s a significant development given Ayton’s absence it’s equal parts compelling considering this team continues to take the majority of its shots outside the arc.

That should make for an interesting matchup with the Sacramento Kings, who have struggled on defense for an extended period and in the last two weeks rank third-worst.

Sacramento sits two spots from the bottom the league with a 74.8% field goal percentage allowed down low in the last two weeks, and to make matters worse it’s dead last against the 3. The only area of the floor that’s been kind to the Kings on either end is the mid-range, where they continue to score at will and defend at least around a league average clip.

The Trail Blazers have certainly struggled to stop the mid-range jumper this season, but considering it’s a highly-inefficient area of the floor to shoot it should be no concern here. Sacramento’s efficiency rating on that end has been middling all season even with effective shooting in the mid-range, and even if it’s able to get work done in its preferred area of the floor the massive concerns on defense will ultimately come back to bite the Kings.

Malik Monk may be back healthy, but it’s not enough to make up for the myriad of issues this Kings team has at the moment. They don’t deserve this line.

Trail Blazers vs Kings same-game parlay

Trail Blazers +6

Shaedon Sharpe Over 18.5 points

Deni Avdija Over 4.5 assists

We’ll go after this brutal Kings interior defense with Shaedon Sharpe, who ranks in the top 40% of all guards in shot frequency at the rim and has hit at a rather high clip as well. He’s been logging heavy playing time over the last three games, averaging well over 18 points in 38 minutes, and with the pace of this game expected to be high he should be leaned upon for plenty of scoring output.

Then, I’ll back the man who’s been playing much more like a facilitator than a scorer at times in the last few weeks in Deni Avdija. The Kings have allowed the fourth-most assists per 100 possessions to opponents in the past 14 days and Avdija has caught fire in the assist column with five or more in three of his last four. Portland should pick apart this Kings defense and help the wing convert plenty of assist chances.
