Warriors vs Clippers picks and predictions

In tonight's NBA showdown between the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Clippers, bettors should strongly consider taking Steph Curry to cover the 28.5 points set for him. There are several reasons to believe that Curry will have a standout performance, and history certainly seems to be on his side.

Curry’s been on fire lately, surpassing the 28.5 points mark in three of his last four games. Furthermore, Curry has a proven track record of thriving against the Clippers. He's scored 30 or more points against them an impressive 17 times in regular season games. In general, when Curry’s been healthy in 2022-23, he hasn't missed a beat. He’s scored Over 28.5 points in 25 of his 43 games this season.

Curry's individual matchup also bodes well for his Over. Since 2016, he's averaged nearly 27 points per game when going head-to-head with Russell Westbrook, including a spectacular 33 points in their last clash in October. Sure, the Clippers will try to adjust with non-Westbrook coverage, but Curry has had little-to-no problem against even the league's most elite defenses this season. Facing the current Top 3 ranked defenses — the Memphis Grizzlies, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Milwaukee Bucks — Curry has averaged 31.8 points per game on 51.4% shooting in five games.

Curry can consistently score against any team regardless of their defensive prowess. Meanwhile, the Clippers have failed to live up to their expected dominance on defense, ranking 13th in D-rating. Their defense began dipping a bit before Russell Westbrook arrived, but the slide really noticeable with him now in the fold. They rank 25th over their past 10 games and 23rd over the past 15.

With Curry's recent form, history of success against the Clippers, favorable individual matchups, and the Clippers' defensive vulnerabilities, bettors have good reason to believe that Curry will cover the 28.5 points set for him tonight.

My best bet: Steph Curry Over 28.5 points (-104)

Warriors vs Clippers spread analysis

Despite the Warriors' undeniable prowess and potential to dominate the playoffs, their road performance this season cannot be ignored. With a dismal 7-26 record away from home, they now face a determined Clippers team eager to secure a win and stave off the possibility of participating in April's play-in tournament. As a result, the Clippers are currently favored with a 3-point spread.

At first glance, it would appear that the Warriors should have no trouble handling the Clippers. In their previous encounters this season, the Warriors managed to cover the spread in two out of three matchups, including a staggering 24-point victory and an impressive 17-point win. During the 24-point triumph, Curry didn't even step onto the court, yet Jordan Poole lit up the scoreboard with 34 points against the Clippers. However, the Clippers' performance shouldn't be underestimated, as they rank 19th in offensive rating and 13th in defensive rating, indicating that they don't excel at an elite level in either category.

Given the Warriors' success against the Clippers this season, it might seem reasonable to assume they will cover the spread once again. However, the Warriors' glaring road struggles cannot be disregarded, making this a difficult prediction.

Warriors vs Clippers Over/Under analysis

The Golden State Warriors are known for their high-octane offense, boasting some of the most impressive stats in the league. They rank second in points per game (118.2), first in pace (101.2), first in 3-point field goals (16.6), and first in assists (29.6). This offensive firepower has led to a trend of high-scoring games involving the Warriors, with the Over hitting in their last four overall.

Similarly, the Clippers have seen their fair share of high-scoring games as well. The Over has hit in their last four games following a straight-up win by more than 10 points, and it has also hit in five out of their last six games on three or more days of rest. When looking at the historical matchups between these two teams in Los Angeles, the Over has hit in nine out of the last 13 meetings.

Taking into account the Warriors' explosive offense and the Clippers' recent high-scoring trends, the 234.5 Over/Under set for tonight's game seems like a reasonable target. Both teams have demonstrated the ability to put up significant points, and their previous encounters have often resulted in high-scoring affairs. Therefore, it wouldn't be surprising to see tonight's game surpass the Over/Under mark.
