The red-hot Golden State Warriors take a trip down to Southern California tonight for a meeting with the Los Angeles Clippers at the Intuit Dome with tip set for 10:30 p.m. ET.
My Warriors vs Clippers predictions are eyeing the Dubs to lock up Norman Powell despite his blistering start to the 2024-25 campaign. Find my NBA picks for Monday, November 18 below.
Warriors vs Clippers prediction
My best bet
Norman Powell Under 19.5 points (-115 at bet365)
My analysis
Norman Powell has been one of the best players in the league early on and is definitely taking advantage of an increased workload in the wake of Paul George's offseason departure from the Los Angeles Clippers. The former UCLA Bruin is averaging a career-high 23.3 points to go along with 3.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists on 46.9% shooting from 3-point land.
However, Powell has cooled off as of late. He’s hit the Under in points in three straight, registering 13, 8, and 19 points. Regression was expected at some point, but it doesn’t mean Powell won’t get back on track.
That being said, the 31-year-old only averaged 14.8 PPG in four appearances against the Golden State Warriors in 2023-24. Steve Kerr’s squad is also one of the best, most well-rounded teams in the Association, ranking third in defensive rating.
While Steph Curry is listed as questionable tonight, they still have lots of solid perimeter defenders such as Andrew Wiggins, Brandin Podziemski, and Gary Payton. The Dubs will contain Powell here and keep him under 20 points for a fourth consecutive outing
Warriors vs Clippers same-game parlay
Taking the Warriors moneyline may be against history. The Clippers have won four in a row versus Golden State, but as we know, this is a much different LA team than a year ago. Kawhi Leonard is hurt and PG is now in Philly. This squad doesn’t have the same firepower.
The Dubs, on the other hand, are thriving. Even though Curry isn’t putting up huge numbers, Golden State is first in the Western Conference with a 10-2 record and is getting contributions from their entire roster.
I mean, Steph scored just 13 points on Friday yet they still beat the Grizzlies. The Dubs were 37-17 as a moneyline favorite last season and have won three straight contests. They also own a 6-1 away record while the Clips are just 4-4 at the Intuit Dome. Expect a solid effort on both ends of the floor from the visitors.
Sure, the Warriors may keep Powell at bay tonight, but his 3-point shooting is still a massive strength. Powell is relying on the deep ball more than he ever has in his career, taking 8.1 triples per night and averaging 3.8 makes.
Of his 19 points against Utah on Sunday, 12 came from downtown. In fact, he’s hit the Over in threes in nine of the last 11 games. Powell is very confident taking shots from beyond the arc and it wouldn’t surprise me to see a few go down tonight after a respectable shooting performance versus the Jazz.
