Both the Golden State Warriors and the Sacramento Kings made big changes to their rosters at the trade deadline. The Dubs made a splashy move by acquiring Jimmy Bulter while the Kings swapped De’Aaron Fox for Zach LaVine. So of course, these two will do battle at Golden 1 Center tonight.

The Warriors appear to have made the win-now move to give Steph Curry one last hurrah in the playoffs. But if Golden State wants to make it a long run, it will need some of its young core to step up and my Warriors vs. Kings predictions look at a player prop for one of those young guys.

Here are my NBA picks for this Pacific Division matchup on Friday, Feb. 21.

Warriors vs Kings prediction

My best bet
Moses Moody Over 12.5 Points (-110 at bet365)

My analysis

The Jimmy Butler era for the Golden State Warriors has gotten off to a solid start. The Warriors are 3-1 straight up and against the spread since acquiring Jimmy Buckets and they’ll look to keep that going when they open their post-All-Star Game play with a road trip to take on the Sacramento Kings.

Bringing in Butler was clearly a move to get the most out of Steph Curry’s final few productive seasons. But to make the most of these Butler years, guys like Moses Moody are going to have to step up and start contributing more.

And to be fair, Moody has started to show that. The 22-year-old is averaging 9.2 points per game this season, but head coach Steve Kerr has started to give him more of a run and it’s starting to pay off.

Moody is averaging over 26 minutes of action over his last 14 games, where he is averaging 12.3 points on nearly 10 field goal attempts per game while shooting 44.1% from the floor. So, it’s not surprising to see his point total sitting at 12.5 for this matchup against the Kings.

The Kings shipped off De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs while reuniting DeMar DeRozan with Zach LaVine (because that worked so well in Chicago). Not surprisingly, the already suspect Sacramento defense has gotten even worse.

While the Kings are 3-3 since acquiring LaVine, they rank 22nd in defensive rating and have allowed 122.6 points per game over that stretch.

Steph and Jimmy will always get the priority from opposing defenses at this point. That should continue to open things up for Moody, who is taking more shots these days. Like I said, his point total is 12.5 but he’s gone Over that number nine times in his last 14 games, and this matchup should mean lots of opportunities to keep that scoring up. I’m on the Over 12.5 points and I’ll be taking a look at his alternate points of 15+ at +165 as well.

Warriors vs Kings same-game parlay

Moses Moody Over 12.5 points

Moses Moody Over 1.5 assists

Warriors team total Over 115.5

Let’s keep going with the Moody props in this same-game parlay and take the Over on his 1.5 assists. Moody is averaging 1.1 assists per game this season. But once again, his increased minutes has upped his assists production as well.

He has dished out 1.8 assists over his last 13 games and has two or more assists seven times over that stretch. Moody also has recorded at least two assists in two matchups against the Kings this season. Sacramento has allowed the seventh most assists per game with Zach LaVine in the lineup.

Sorry, to pile on the Kings here, but I just can’t get over their decision to become a terrible defensive team. Give me the Warriors alt team total Over 115.5. As noted, the Kings have given up more than 120 points per game since acquiring LaVine and 118 or more four times. The Warriors have averaged 116.7 points per game with Jimmy Butler.

The sportsbook where he does the bulk of his betting is bet365 thanks to its numerous prop betting options and competitive odds. His best advice? Find the balance between the numbers and what you see on the playing field. Then find the best price using multiple books. And don’t ask him where the nickname Taco comes from. It’s not an interesting story. Seriously.
