Wizards vs Mavericks Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game

It’s the end of a lengthy six-game road trip for the Washington Wizards, and the Dallas Mavericks hope to be anything but gracious hosts in the finale.

Dallas has slid to ninth in the Western Conference as they struggle without Luka Doncic, so a win against the road-weary Wizards is a must. 

Our Wizards vs. Mavericks predictions have Dallas getting back into the win column, though covering that spread might be an issue for my NBA picks.

My analysis
The Dallas Mavericks dropped to 24-22 on the season with a 122-107 loss to the Celtics in their first meeting since dropping the NBA title to them last year.

It wasn’t a true representation of themselves, though, as it was the 16th game the Mavs have played without Luka Doncic (calf), and they're now 5-11 since he went down on Christmas Day.

Dallas hasn’t been able to find its offensive footing, averaging just 109.3 points per game during this struggle. Kyrie Irving leads the team in scoring at 24.4 points per game in Luka’s absence, but no other player is averaging even 14 points a game for support.

The Mavericks are also severely shorthanded. On top of Doncic, Dwight Powell (hip), Naji Marshall (illness), Maxi Kleber (foot), Dante Exum (wrist), and Dereck Lively (ankle) are all out for Monday. The good news is that they might not need them against the Washington Wizards, who appear to be everyone's get-right team.

Washington enters this one after getting burned by the Suns, their team’s 13th straight loss. They’ve dropped four straight by double digits and in 10 of the 13 losses overall.

The Wizards can’t seem to stop anyone, as they allow a whopping 122.1 points per game, which ranks worst in the NBA. They’re also the fourth-lowest scoring team in the league, putting up just 107.8 per contest. Washington is also the NBA’s worst road team, picking up just a single win in 21 away games on the season.

While Dallas has won three straight in this head-to-head, including a 137-101 pounding on December 5, it hasn’t had much separation in its wins without Doncic.

In their five Luka-less wins, the Mavericks have only been able to win by double digits once: a 118-97 win over the Lakers on Jan 7. The other four games have seen an average margin of victory of 7.3 points. The Wizards are also 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 against Dallas.

It’s been a rough go for Klay Thompson of late, as he’s scored in single digits in five of his last seven, including last game, when he scored six points against the Celtics. He's been held Under his 2.5 3-point make line in five straight games and just once in the last seven.

Washington presents a chance to shoot out of that slump, as the Wizards are allowing teams to shoot 37.9% against them from beyond the arc. He went 3-for-5 from distance in his only meeting against Washington this season, and has hit at least three triples in six straight meetings vs. the Wiz.

We’ll wrap with Washington forward Kyle Kuzma, who's coming off an 11-rebound night in a loss to the Suns. He’s gone Over his 6.5-rebound prop in four straight, and Dallas’ frontcourt after Daniel Gafford is limited due to injury. Kuzma should find himself in a great position on the glass Monday.
