Steven Ashworth is a beast in transition for the Bluejays, and he'll fill the bucket tonight against Nebraska.

We have a tasty in-state rivalry matchup when the Creighton Bluejays and Nebraska Cornhuskers face off in an early-season battle.

This one should be fun and have a good amount of scoring, and my Creighton vs. Nebraska predictions expect plenty of points from Bluejays guard Steven Ashworth

Read all about it in my college basketball picks for Friday, November 22.

Nebraska vs Creighton prediction

My best bet
Steven Ashworth Over 15.5 points (-110 at bet365)

My analysis
This is the type of game Steven Ashworth should thrive in, given the pace and the transition opportunities that will open up. I bet on Ashworth a ton last year, and one of the most significant contributing factors to betting on him was targeting teams with poor transition defenses.

Last year was a perfect example of that when he scored his season-high 26 points against Butler, who ranked poorly in transition defense throughout most of the season. The Jays blitzed them for 1.55 points in transition, and Ashworth was a big reason why.

We already have examples of this this season, too. Creighton has played one transition defense, giving up an above-average amount of points, and guess what? It's the game Ashworth has scored the most in so far this season.

Texas Rio Grande Valley has looked rather impressive this season but now sits in the Bottom 25% of college basketball, allowing 1.3 points per possession in transition situations. A similar spot is unfolding today, with Ashworth getting to attack a transition defense that's not as bad but still fairly poor.

Nebraska has allowed nearly a point per possession in transition so far this season. That's well above the national average of .85. The advantages don't just stop there, though.

The Cornhuskers have a pretty good defense in the halfcourt: they rank 43rd in KenPom for a reason (and maybe even better), but one area they've struggled with is defending simple dribble creation or isolation plays.

With the Huskers' attention on Ryan Kalkbrenner in the post — a bonafide player of the year contender averaging over 25 points this season — there will be even more space for these plays. I suspect Ashworth will take advantage of this.

Nebraska vs Creighton same-game parlay

Steven Ashworth Over 15.5 points

Juwan Gary Under 5.5 rebounds

Given Nebraska has leaned on second-chance points this season, the backboard will be an area of focus for Creighton, and this is a solid rebounding team. Getting Juwan Gary at this number seems steep, given his season average of just under five.
