Notre Dame vs Georgia Tech Predictions, Picks, and Odds: Rebounds Aplenty for Ndongo

Notre Dame has struggled to contain opposing teams on the glass, serving up copious amounts of rebounds. This will quite literally play right into Georgia Tech's and freshman Baye Ndongo's hands in this afternoon's ACC Tournament clash.

The ACC Tournament bracket tips off in Washington D.C. when the Notre Dame Fighting Irish take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Tuesday's Round 1 matchup.

These programs finished in the bottom third of the conference, with Georgia Tech climbing out of the basement thanks to a late-season surge that saw it win three straight before dropping the season finale.

Notre Dame backs into the postseason on back-to-back losses but did win both meetings with the Yellow Jackets in the regular season. The Irish have quietly been a good bet the past month, boasting a 5-1 ATS mark in their last six contests. Still, neither team boasts the most sterling conference tournament odds.

I size up the spread and Over/Under total for this ACC Tournament opener and give my best college basketball picks and predictions for Georgia Tech vs. Notre Dame on Tuesday, March 12.

Notre Dame vs Georgia Tech picks and predictions

What do you get when you pit two of the worst shooting teams in the ACC against each other in a neutral-site arena? Rebounds, and lots of them.

That means a busy day for Georgia Tech forward Baye Ndongo, who finished sixth among all ACC players in rebounds this season (averaging 8.3 per game).

The 6-foot-9 freshman has been especially active on the glass the past two weeks, hauling in 9.7 boards an outing while logging an uptick in minutes over the Yellow Jackets’ final six games.

Notre Dame enters the ACC tournament having been bullied on the boards the past four games, especially in the final two contests of the regular season. The Fighting Irish gave up 38 rebounds to Virginia Tech (14 on the offensive glass) and 45 to North Carolina (14 offensive).

Georgia Tech enters ranked 74th in the country in overall rebound rate, 41st in total rebounds per game, and averages more than 10 offensive boards per outing, with 2.6 of those coming from Ndongo.

In their first meeting this season, Notre Dame and GT shot a combined 38% from the field and Ndongo wrangled nine rebounds in a 75-68 overtime home loss for the Yellow Jackets on Jan. 9. In their most recent matchup, he was limited to just 27 minutes due to early foul trouble and finished with only five boards in a 58-55 loss at South Bend on Valentine’s Day.

Ndongo’s player prop markets have his rebounding total for today at 7.5 with the Over juiced as high as -135 at some sportsbooks. Player projections forecast a tick over eight rebounds for the latest selection to the ACC’s All-Rookie Team. Shopping around, you can find Ndongo Over 7.5 rebounds as low as -122.

Given projections, his recent uptick in rebounds, and Notre Dame getting dominated on the glass, Georgia Tech’s fantastic freshman will pull down at least eight boards to open the ACC tournament this afternoon.

My best bet: Baye Ndongo Over 7.5 rebounds (-122 at FanDuel)

Notre Dame vs Georgia Tech same-game parlay

Baye Ndongo Over 7.5 rebounds

Baye Ndongo Over 11.5 points

Georgia Tech moneyline

Ndongo has been especially active on the boards in recent weeks, averaging almost 10 rebounds per game over his last six outings.

A few offensive putbacks will help push Ndongo past his scoring prop, which sits right on his scoring average of 12 points per game.

Game models are calling for a close contest, with most giving the nod to Georgia Tech as underdogs.
