Two of the top teams in the Big 12 collide Saturday afternoon when the No. 10-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders visit the unranked Kansas Jayhawks.

With the Red Raiders still dealing with key injuries, our Texas Tech vs. Kansas predictions and college basketball picks think scoring will be at a premium.

My analysis
The Texas Tech Red Raiders are fading a bit coming down the home stretch and are in danger of dropping their third conference game in the last four. Texas Tech was held in check by the No. 4-ranked Houston Cougars last time out, losing 69-61.

The loss was a combination of the nation’s top defense from Houston, but also because the Red Raiders were missing Chance McMillian and Darrion Williams — two of the team’s top three scorers. Combined, they put up 30 points per game. Their status for Saturday has yet to be determined.

It didn’t help that head coach Grant McCasland had only six players hit the floor against the Cougars, with the team shooting 29.8% from the field, including a dreadful 6-for-30 mark from downtown, a 20% clip.

That should help ease a brutal home stretch for the Kansas Jayhawks, who close out against three ranked teams (Houston and Arizona after this). They enter on a positive note, winning two straight games, the latest a 71-64 triumph over Colorado.

Both teams bring a solid defense to the court on Saturday, though. The Red Raiders allow just 66.6 points per game, which is good for fourth in the conference and just a few spots above Kansas, who allow 67.3.

With Texas Tech’s roster in flux, Kansas should be able to keep up with the Red Raiders offensively, as they’re a shell of the team that normally averages 80.7 points per game. Texas Tech already owns an adjusted tempo that ranks 272nd at KenPom, and slowing things to a rockfight will likely be its way to compete in a tough environment.

The Red Raiders have already gone Under the total in four straight, and the Under has hit in the last two meetings between these squads.

Texas Tech vs Kansas same-game parlay (SGP)

Under 145

JT Toppin Over 19.5 points

Hunter Dickinson Under 18.5 points

Texas Tech's leading scorer, JT Toppin, should be a major source of offense tonight. The 6-foot-9 sophomore has hit the 20-point mark four times in his last six games. After a struggle against Houston, where he shot just 6-for-18 for 14 points, even Kansas’ sixth-ranked scoring defense in the Big 12 will look much lighter than what he just faced.
